Must have a high school diploma or equivalent with two years of experience in construction or building maintenance trades (Electrical, Plumbing, Mechanical, HVAC, Carpentry, and/or Painting). The applicant must be familiar with the safe and proper use of hand and power tools, be able to follow instructions, and to perform tasks independently and as part of a team. The applicant must have a working knowledge of computers and must be able to communicate well with staff, students, and the general public.

Preferred Qualifications

A valid North Carolina driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record is required. A National Career Readiness Certificate and Bilingual are preferred.

Position Description

The Facilities Maintenance Technician performs servicing, troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance on-campus facilities utilizing a computer-based work order system. The technician performs tasks related to the maintenance of buildings, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and heating/air conditioning systems, scheduled and preventive maintenance on HVAC systems and other college assets, and assists in repairs, replacement, or installation of electrical equipment. Additional duties include being able to install communication network cables and terminations and perform minor carpentry work. The technician acquires parts and supplies for facilities maintenance utilizing the institution’s requisition procedures and operates assigned motorized vehicles, hand tools, power tools, and other equipment. The technician must be familiar with state and federal EPA, OSHA, NEC, and NFPA safety compliance requirements. The technician performs physically strenuous work to include bending, climbing, and lifting. The technician serves as a member of the College’s emergency response team.
