Minimum Qualifications
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalency. 2-year degree preferred.
- Two years’ experience in the area of maintenance and facilities work
- Two years custodial services
- Two years supervisory experience
- Valid North Carolina Driver’s License
- Demonstrated dependability by work performance and attendance

Position Description
FLSA: Maintenance, Non-exempt
Salary is commensurate with experience.
The role of the Maintenance Technician is to oversee, evaluate and perform skilled and routine tasks in the repair and maintenance of the College facilities, buildings and equipment. Exercises functional and technical tasks throughout the facilities.
The Maintenance Technician reports direct to the Dean of the Campus. This position is in the Operations Department.
Examples of Duties:
- Oversee the maintenance/repair needs at the Dare County and Roanoke Island Campuses
- Make recommendations of necessary repairs and upgrades of physical buildings to the Campus Dean and Chief Operations Officer
- Communicate with the county concerning campus needs and repairs
- Ensure inspections of fire extinguishers, hoods, pilot lights and monitoring systems are up to date
- Conduct monthly fire extinguisher inspections
- Conduct routine maintenance on HVAC systems, plumbing systems, electrical systems and fire suppression systems
- Change HVAC filters on a bi-monthly schedule and maintain records of changes
- Conduct small repairs as needed at all locations
- Submit and track work orders to Dare County
- Maintain location reports for fire extinguishers, pull stations, duct and smoke detectors
- Be on the emergency call out list with Fire Alarm company and security company
- Maintain phone updates at the Dare Campus
- Supervise Custodial staff
- Verify custodians’ timesheets
- Develop working schedule for the custodial staff that best meets the needs for the College
- Ensure custodians receive annual training
- Order custodial supplies
- Assist with setting up for various events
- Coordinate usage of campus vans and ensure they are gassed and ready for use
- Schedule maintenance and inspections for vans
- Adhere to college policies and procedures regarding operations
- Assist in the development of the annual budget
- Complete needed monthly, quarterly, semi-annual and annual reports as needed
- Other duties as assigned
