Work Experience :
1. Minimum of three (3) years of related experience in one or all the following areas, plumbing, HVAC, electrical and general repairs.
2. Minimum of two (2) years of experience in commercial or industrial maintenance.
3. Work experience with building construction and/or renovation projects.
Preferred Qualifications:

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
1. Willing to perform work in multiple areas of Facility Services such as preventive maintenance in plumbing, HVAC, carpentry and general maintenance.
2. Become familiar with the operation of all Durham Technical Community College (DT) building operating equipment, and the Facility Service Work Order system.
3. Showing initiative in the job to ensure a continuous, timely and efficient operation, using good judgment without constant or direct supervision, and being alert for new ideas and improvements.
4. Install electrical systems and components, including fuses, lights, light switches and receptacles.
5. Working knowledge of electrical theory, and the associated principles, materials, and equipment.
6. Ability to take initiative in the job to ensure a continuous, timely and efficient operation, using good judgement without constant or direct supervision, and being alert for new ideas and improvements.
7. Having locksmith basic understanding or showing initiative to learn and become a licensed locksmith.
8. Demonstrated ability to operate hand and power tools associated with electrical work and/or general maintenance environment.
9. Willing to train and upgrade knowledge in assigned duties.
10. Ability to organize work, maintain accurate records and account for numerous details.
11. Being a reliable, responsible, tactful, resourceful, and trustworthy person with a sincere interest and concerned attitude toward the College and a cooperative disposition in working well with other people, and have the ability to understand and follow directions.

Essential Functions
The Facilities Technician-Locksmith is responsible for ensuring that Durham Technical Community College’s buildings and equipment are maintained in a professional and timely manner. The employee is to perform assigned tasks in a cooperative, safe and competent manner, achieve the objectives of the Facility Services Department, and accomplish all duties as specified in the contract of employment. This position will include the education of becoming a certified locksmith and all the duties that entail within that job position.The General Maintenance Technician/Locksmith is an Essential Employee of the college.
Job Duties
1. Assist and/or perform proper maintenance, repairs, and modifications as necessary (within in-house capabilities) on plumbing, and HVAC equipment, minor roof, and building repairs.
2. Performing preventive maintenance as defined by the manufacturer or the Facility Services Department specifications.
3. Performing and/or assisting with repairs relating to mechanical, electrical, or plumbing systems, and/or other general maintenance as required.
4. Showing initiative in the job to ensure a continuous, timely, and efficient operation, using good judgment without constant or direct supervision, and being alert for new ideas and improvements.
5. Ensuring that the workshop, storerooms, and all rooms associated with the heating and air conditioning equipment are maintained in a clean and orderly manner.
6. Being prepared to change and adjust schedule by the season, quarter or semester, and when otherwise necessary to perform tasks deemed appropriate by the Facility Services Director or other appropriate DT officials.
7. Willing and readily cooperative in being pulled off of your regular work assignment as needed to help out in temporary and emergency situations.
8. Be respectful of all employees, including your immediate peers.
9. Uniforms, as furnished by DT, will be worn during normal working hours and kept clean and neat in appearance.
10. All safety equipment as furnished by DT will be used as required by OSHA, the DT Safety Committee, and the Facility Services Department.
11. All communication equipment as furnished by DT will be properly maintained and used in compliance with all FCC regulations and as required by the Facility Services Department.
12. Following work assignments as given by your supervisor.
13. During the after-hours schedule, being quickly available for events and situations that occur within the Facility Services area of expertise.
14. Following all work order procedures as directed by your supervisor and required by the Facility Services Department.
15. Additional duties shall include other appropriate activities as assigned by the Director of Facility Services, Chief Campus Operations Officer, and/or the President.

Required Working HoursA minimum of a 40-hour work week as determined with the supervisor to allow the employee to fulfill the assigned duties and responsibilities, including occasional evening and weekend hours. Summer schedules may vary to enable four-day or four-and-one-half
