Minimum Qualifications

Qualifications Required:

  • Must have background in and current knowledge of dental assisting in topics such as infection/hazard control, radiography, dental materials, preventive dentistry, and clinical procedures
  • Bachelor's Degree or ability to receive one within 2 years from date of hire from a regionally accredited institution in a closely related field
  • Credentialed Dental Assistant by a credentialing organization accredited by the Dental Assisting National Board OR dentist licensed to practice in NC with occupational experience in the application of fourhanded dentistry principles, either as a dental assistant or working with chairside assistant 
  • Current Healthcare Provider level CPR certification or willingness to obtain the certification.
  • Flexibility to work in afternoons/evenings/weekends
  • Strong computer skills and commitment to the use of technology in instruction
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Experience working with online course management systems (such as Moodle or Blackboard)
  • Ability to work effectively and collegially with others in a team environment
  • Ability to support and respond to students needs
  • Familiarity with and appreciation for the mission of a comprehensive community college
  • Effectiveness in the following College organizational competencies:

  • A minimum of three years of full-time or equivalent experience as a clinical chairside Dental Assistant 
  • Teaching experience in an accredited Dental Assisting program

What you'll do on a typical day:

The Faculty at Davidson-Davie Community College is a full-time 9 month position, with the faculty member's primary efforts focused on teaching and learning, academic excellence and student success. Primary responsibilities for the Faculty in the Dental Assisting program, include designing and implementing learning strategies for students in the Dental Assisting Program; developing course syllabi and instructional materials; maintaining instructional records; student recruitment, mentoring, counseling and retention; developing and evaluating courses, programs and services; managing program and administrative duties; participating in College activities and committees; and other duties which support the mission and initiatives of the College.  

The Faculty is responsible for program effectiveness, including outcomes, organization, administration, continuous review, planning and development.  This position reports directly to the Program Director of the Dental Assisting program. The position includes day, evening and weekend instruction in traditional and hybrid learning environments.

    • Engaging collaboratively with colleagues by using data-informed decision-making to continually improve courses and programs.
    • Integrating appropriate instructional technology and instructional materials to enhance student learning outcomes and promote student success.
    • Fostering equity and respect for diversity among students with a focus on student learning.
    • Ensuring timely, consistent, and feedback and accurate record keeping in support of student success.continuing professional development related to the curriculum content.
    • Participate in activities necessary to meet, achieve and maintain program accreditation from the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA).
