Position Description

A full-time, 12-month position located on either the Rocky Mount or Tarboro Campus. Evaluate and process applications for financial assistance; ensure the expeditious handling of aid applications to include monitoring changes in eligibility; advise and educate students and parents regarding the financial aid process and eligibility requirements.  Help ensure institutional compliance with DOE regulations by accurately interpreting and communicating regulations for students and various institutional personnel.

Essential Duties

Advise and counsel current and prospective students about financial aid eligibility, application procedures, aid programs; costs; indebtedness; money and management; and financial planning:  individualize this information to the particular needs and situation of the student – always with good customer service in mind as most important. 

Collect and/or analyze financial and other student data to determine aid eligibility and make sure that awards are within federal, state, donor, and/or institutional guidelines. 

Answer questions, inquires, or requests from students, parents, or guardians in person or in writing regarding financial aid programs and eligibility. 

Assist in the preparation and presentation of information regarding federal, state, and other financial programs to various campus groups, high school students, and parents at meetings, group discussions, workshops, and recruitment activities. 

Analyze various system generated reports such as grades and enrollment or award status to verify continued compliance and eligibility of students receiving aid under federal, state, and institutional guidelines; notify students of changes in eligibility for awards and alternatives to amend the situation. 

Assist with other financial aid activities such as outreach, reporting, and monitoring as required. 

Attend workshops and seminars in order to keep abreast of regulations and trends in federal, state, and other financial aid programs.

Evaluate unusual/mitigating circumstance documentation or information provided by the student; exercise professional judgment  by making adjustments or revisions to costs, contributions, need, or dependency status as exceptions to the usual process.                       

Serves as the Federal Work Study Coordinator and may assist with transmitting all institutional data (including but not limited to ISIR, PELL, NSLDS, COD, and other program data) required for determining and processing student financial aid eligibility to or from the US DOE.  Assist the Director of Financial Aid with gathering and submitting FISAP and other annual report information. 

Any other duties assigned by the Director of Financial Aid.
