Position Description
The Financial Aid Advisor has the responsibility of helping students complete financial aid applications and other necessary forms; requesting and processing confidential documents; answering phones and handling inquiries. The Advisor will provide research and assistance to the director with the administration of grants, scholarships, loans and work study students in accordance with federal, state, and college regulations.
The duties of the Financial Aid Advisor include, but are not limited to:
- Counsel students about various financial aid programs and Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP)
- Help students complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
- Receive/place telephone calls and assist with the completion of the financial aid process
- Receive, process, and maintain grant and scholarship information
- Updating and designing financial aid applications, correspondence forms, and scholarship applications
- Process ISIR's to determine student aid eligibility, send award/ineligible letters/emails and other correspondence indicating in completion or follow-up, and post financial aid awards to student accounts
- Monitor Pell overpayment and loan default status online using the National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS)
- Monitor changes and updates regarding financial federal regulations and policies; assist with communicating updates to staff and work study students
- Maintain proper documentation of all awards to monitor fund control records and the limitations on funding levels for all federal and state student aid programs
- Maintain records for a period of three years following terminations of enrollment of an eligible student and make these records available for examination by authorized representatives of the state and federal government for compliance audits
- Provide research support for the Dean of Student Services and the Director of Financial Aid
- Perform such other tasks as assigned by the Director of Financial Aid
- Process and post all third party scholarships that are received to corresponding student accounts
- Certify and process all private loan funds that run through the Office of Financial Aid
