Financial Aid Advisor II - Havelock

SALARY:$42,000.00 - $44,000.00 Annually

OCCUPATIONAL SUMMARY:

The Financial Aid Advisor II manages and assist students with the Financial Aid process to include assistance with FAFSA, Scholarships and Grants.  This position provides office coverage for both the Havelock Campus and MCAS Cherry Point office. This position coordinates with financial aid staff at the main campus for the Federal Work Study program as needed. This position works closely with the Assistant Director of Financial Aid with Federal reporting and processing.  This position works closely with the Foundation and Financial Services to perform scholarship maintenance activities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides excellent customer service and assistance to internal and external customers through walk-in, telephone and email at the Havelock and MCAS Cherry Point Campuses
  • Provides information to students regarding financial aid programs, eligibility requirements and application processes; interprets and explains the College’s financial aid policies and procedures to students, parents and the general public
  • Facilitates/provides financial aid training for students and parents at Havelock High School; facilitate financial aid workshops as needed by other community stakeholders
  • Sends correspondence to students regarding incomplete or missing information in their files
  • Processes student aid applications electronically; verifies, submits corrections and packages financial aid awards
  • Completes verifications, resolves comment-codes, obtains documents and makes necessary corrections in ISIRs in compliance with federal and state regulations
  • Oversees the import of ISIRs ensuring accuracy and proper budget/COA calculation, assigns student files to financial aid advisor for awarding
  • Signs off on student withdrawal forms and advises students of the impact on financial aid
  • Ensures compliance with all Title IV regulations regarding aid eligibility
  • Administers assigned state scholarship programs including the selection and awarding of assigned scholarships
  • Maintains and tracks appeals of Satisfactory Academic Progress for the SAP Committee
  • Reviews reports to ensure student compliance with course curricular requirements related to financial aid
  • Participates in appropriate committees and task forces as assigned
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Accounting, or closely related field from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge

  • Knowledge of federal, state and college financial aid regulations and guidelines
  • Knowledge of basic tax forms
  • Knowledge and understanding of student financial needs
  • Knowledge of FERPA requirements
  • Knowledge of basic mathematical and accounting principles

  • Demonstrates proficiency in a variety of Windows-based computer programs relative to performing responsibilities, including Microsoft Word Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Demonstrates organizational skills to plan, organize and implement assigned responsibilities

  • Understanding, interpreting and applying laws, regulations and procedures concerning financial aid programs
