Minimum Qualifications

  1. An associate’s or higher level degree from a regionally accredited institution.
  2. One or more years’ experience in a professional setting is required.
  3. Proficiency in MS Office required.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Experience in a North Carolina community college/higher education financial aid office.
  2. Working knowledge of Financial Aid rules, regulations and guidelines.  To include knowledge of the FAFSA process online.
  3. Experience working with DATATEL software.

Position Description

The Financial Aid Associate works closely with the Financial Aid Office staff in managing daily operations and providing informative and accurate information to all students, faculty and staff in the area of financial aid. 

  1. Provide accurate and informative information in the area of financial aid to students, faculty and staff.
  2. Manage the daily operations of the office, receiving visitors/students, taking and routing phone calls as needed, setting financial aid appointments in peak times.
  3. Coordinates areas of the financial aid Work-Study program with the direction of the Director of Financial Aid and Financial Aid Specialist to include maintaining timesheets, budgets and assignments.
  4. Interacts with students and/or families to follow up on missing or deficient information; relays and discusses status of application.
  5. Receives various forms, documentation, appeal forms, other material pertaining to the completion of a student’s financial aid process, forwards or retains as appropriate. 
  6. Maintain inventory and replenish office supplies and training materials as needed.
  7. Prepares letters, financial aid awards, document tracking and SAP material to students.
  8. Assists students with completing and correcting financial aid related documents including, but not limited to, the FAFSA Application and creating the FSA ID.
  9. Maintain knowledge of all types of aid and scholarships offered at SCC as well as the guidelines for qualifications.
  10. Provide accurate and informative information in the area of financial aid to students, faculty and staff.
  11. Responsible for scanning all documents in the area of financial aid.
  12. Perform duties in manner that represents exemplary customer service both to the general public as well as College staff and personnel.
  13. Assist Financial Aid Specialists and cross train in other financial aid office duties as assigned by the Director of Financial Aid.
  14. Perform other related duties as assigned.
