Minimum Qualifications
Minimum of associate's degree and one year of experience. Strong administrative, organizational and customer service skills; accounting experience; working knowledge of current office-related software, including work with databases, and ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment; excellent oral and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Strongly prefer previous experience in a financial aid office and/or the federal work study program. Prefer experience using Colleague software. Candidate should have proven ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with students and staff, and be able to work independently.
Position Description
The specialist supports the enrollment and academic progress of students by processing and awarding financial aid applications, assisting students with completing the financial aid process, coaching/counseling students at-risk of losing financial aid eligibility, coordinating the Federal work-study program, and presenting on- and off-campus financial aid workshops and similar community outreach programs.
Example of Duties
Duties include but are not limited to: electronically process financial aid applications; maintain files; authorize payments of funds; reconcile expenditures and prepare reports; assist in SAP appeals; assist with reconciliation of State and Federal grants; re-evaluate aid of students with "special circumstances"; assist with Return to Title IV calculations; assist with payment on modular classes; maintain spread sheets and assist in contacting students about overpayments; assist students with the financial aid process; coordinate the federal work study program; assist with student emergency requests; advise students on Caution, Warning and Probation for Financial Aid; present on-campus and off-campus financial aid workshops, financial literacy education, and FAFSA Day; act as the school liaison between the ACC financial aid office and ABSS college transition programs as needed; and other duties as assigned.
