Minimum Qualifications
• Associate’s Degree
• One year experience in a secondary or post-secondary student services area
• Effective written and oral communication skills
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and data management systems
• Experience in office organizational techniques and practices
Preferred Qualifications
• Bachelor’s Degree
• College financial aid experience
• Experience with data management systems (Datatel, Banner, PeopleSoft, etc)

Job Description
The Financial Aid Technician I is a part-time position located on both the OCH/LLP Campuses in Monroe and Polkton, NC. Under the direction of the Financial Aid Programs Coordinator, the Financial Aid Technician I provides high quality service to students and employees to achieve a high standard of excellence and innovation in support services.
Job Duties
· Assist financial aid applicants in understanding the application process for Pell Grants, College Work-Study, the state need-based scholarship program, general scholarships, and other sources of financial assistance available to students at the college
· Assist with the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for students
· Assist in the collection of verification data and change-in-program forms as directed by the Director of Financial Aid
· Attend workshops and seminars on Financial Aid as requested
· Maintain confidentiality of student records and other pertinent information
· Assist Veteran students in understanding their benefits, the collection of Veteran documentation, and assisting with certifying classes each semester for the Veteran student population
· Assist in documentation of student retention and progression. Assist in the implementation of interventions to foster cooperation among faculty, staff and participants
· Assist with the College Work Study program by collecting time sheets monthly, posting positions, and verifying student eligibility
· Assist students with applying for scholarships and other financial aid options
· Provide excellent customer service to students and co-workers
· Meet with the financial aid staff on a regularly scheduled basis to insure uniformity in policy and procedures
· Work variable schedule if needed, including evenings and/or weekends
· Participate in SPCC teams as requested
· Assist in planning, development, implementation and evaluation of planning goals and objectives for the Financial Aid Department in conjunction with the SPCC Strategic Plan
· Assist with the admissions process as needed
· Ability to deal effectively, cooperatively, and tactfully with faculty, staff, administrators, and students
· Enthusiastic, creative, a team player and work with a diverse student population
· Personal and professional integrity which communicates a sense of mission, leadership and ability to self-start
· A positive and proactive approach in identifying problems, creating innovative solutions and managing projects
· Advocacy for diversity and for students requiring educational assistance to succeed
· Perform various other duties as assigned
