Minimum Qualifications
An Associate’s degree from a regionally accredited institution in a related field or an equivalent combination of training and experience is required. A NC Office of State Fire Marshal (NC OSFM) certification as a Firefighter Emergency Vehicle Driver, Technical Rescuer or Fire and Life Safety Educator for 5 years. NC OSFM qualified Level II Fire Instructor and qualified in one or more NC OSFM specialty certification topics; current certification in First Aid/CPR/AED
Preferred Qualifications
Must also have three years of experience within the past five years carrying out the duties of a firefighter. A National Career Readiness Certificate and bilingual preferred.
Position Description
The Fire Services Coordinator will serve as a NC OSFM-Certified School Director for Wayne Community College (WCC) certification courses and programs. The Coordinator will provide leadership for the planning, scheduling, and reporting of fire services training program in accordance with North Carolina Fire and Rescue Commission standards (NC FRC). Assure program areas are up-to-date and in compliance with state accreditation standards. Assess community educational needs and interests of participant target groups and renew courses offered due to changing needs and requirements. Maintain close supervision of course records, instructor competency, and student participation. Instruct Workforce Continuing Education fire services courses as relevant to the schedule and develop new curriculum and/or delivery methods. Maintain effective relations with staff, faculty, students, community, other educational institutions, businesses and public safety organizations. Interpret North Carolina, North Carolina Office of State Fire Marshall (NC OSFM), North Carolina Community College System (NCCCS) and WCC policies as accurately and constructively as possible. Facilitate the testing process and ensure safeguarding and management of all applicable test materials and lesson plans as directed by the NC OSFM and local agencies. Function as liaison between students and NC OSFM regarding certification questions and concerns, as required of a NC OSFM delivery agency. Identify and recruit faculty for the Fire Services program. Recruit, train, and supervise instructors in the preparation and submission of student registrations, assessment, attendance, and other course-related paperwork. Serve on external and internal committees to provide leadership and input. Visit classes and complete on-site visitation of records and travel to field sites as required. Participate in administrative staff activities. Will require evenings and weekends. Perform other related duties assigned by Dean of Public Safety, the Vice President of Workforce Continuing Education Services & Community Engagement, and WCC administration.
