Position Description

GENERAL FUNCTION:

Under the general supervision of the Foundational Studies Director, the applicant must demonstrate mastery of basic education competencies that prepare students for the high-school equivalency examinations. Instruction will be contextualized for adults who have exited the public school system prior to graduating and who are seeking educational advancement and employment that leads to family sustaining wages.  Courses will include written and verbal communication, English language acquisition, mathematics, social studies, science, employability and life skills. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Teaches Instruction of Adult Basic Education, High School Equivalency and Adult High School classes
  • Creates an effective learning environment
  • Presents instruction based on the competencies and performance levels of the course
  • Maintains accurate attendance and scholastic and performance levels of the course
  • Uses teaching methods designed for a variety of learning styles
  • Uses course text, outlines, syllabi and other curriculum materials in accordance with college and departmental guidelines
  • Assists with maintaining a classroom environment emphasizing safety, good housekeeping, and equipment security
  • Serves as academic advisor to students
  • Participates in communications with the college and departments and meets deadlines as required

 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor Degree in Education or related field
  • Effective written and verbal communication

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:         

  • Adult Education Experience
  • M.S. in Education or related field
