  • Operational characteristics, services and activities of a community college bookstore.
  • Modern and complex principles and practices of purchasing and sales.

  • Basic principles of mathematics and accounting.
  • Principles and practices of inventory control.
  • Customer relations techniques and methods.
  • Procedures and practices involved with handling money, issuing receipts and balancing a cash drawer.

 
Education Minimum:   High School Diploma, GED or higher with experience in related field.
            
Experience Minimum:   One (1) to three (3) years retail supervisory experience with preference given to college or retail bookstore experience.

Position Description

Summary 
To oversee front of house operations and supervise, coordinate assigned activities within the store with other departments and the general public and to provide highly responsible assistance to the Bookstore Manager.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Assist the Bookstore Manager with the day-to-day duties of the college store and service levels, policy administration, supervision, information systems, public relation activities and related matters.
  • Ensures compliance with college policies and procedures related to store security, the staff and merchandise.
  • Interfaces with students, faculty, staff, notifies Manager of complaints and escalated issues in a timely and satisfactory manner
  • Works with the Manager on making sure that store markups, markdowns are up to date.
  • Monitoring cash procedures, payables and receivables.
  • Answers routine inquiries and handles escalated complaints
  • Interfaces with campus security regarding store security, employees, customers or store assets as well as ensures the safety of college funds, assets, personnel, customers and property and adherence of policies
  • Maintains cash register system, and bookstore website.
  • Works with the manager researching publisher materials to determine availability, price, and shipment of book orders.
  • Works with the manager to make sure that books and supply inventory are up to date.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.  
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

 
Computer Skills
