Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Education/Training/Experience

Nurse Aide Level I:

Per the N.C. Department of Health and Human Services, Division of Health Service Regulation Health Care Personnel Education and Credentialing Section, the minimum competency and qualifications for faculty for a Nurse Aide Level I program shall include:

 

  • Current, unrestricted license to practice as a registered Nurse in North Carolina.
  • Two (2) years (4000 hours) of experience as a Registered Nurse in the United States.
    1. States demonstrated by:
  1. Working in a long-term care facility licensed as a skilled nursing facility or a skilled nursing facility which is a distinct part of a hospital.

 

OR

  1. Supervising or teaching students in a long-term care facility licensed as a skilled nursing facility or a skilled nursing facility, which is a distinct part of a hospital.
  • The successful applicant must meet at least one of the following:
  1. Completion of a course in teaching adults.
  2. Experience in teaching adults.
  3. Experience in supervising nurse aides.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Education/Training, Experience, Skills:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing
  • Acute and Long Term Health Care Facility experience
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification
  • Excellent computer skills

Position Description

DEFINITION:

To provide instruction to students through lecture, demonstration, laboratory exercises, clinical instruction, handouts, and responding to questions and testing.

 

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED:

  • Receives general supervision from the Nurse Aide Program Director, and the Associate Vice President of Economic and Workforce Development

 

Duties & Responsibilities (Essential Functions)

 

ESSENTIAL AND OTHER IMPORTANT FUNCTIONS STATEMENTS:

Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

 

Essential Functions:

  • Provide classroom, clinical, and laboratory instruction to students half a day at each of the CFCC Nurse Aide I training sites listed below:
    1. New Hanover High School
    2. Either the Wilmington Downtown Campus, Burgaw Center or Alston W. Burke Center.
    3. Nurse Aide I courses may be scheduled for day, afternoon or evening.
  • Prepare lesson plans and schedule classroom activities.
  • Develop and prepare supplemental materials to enhance textbook lessons using the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services Regulation (NC DPHSR) approved Nurse Aide I training curriculum and North Carolina Board of Nursing (NCBON) approved Nurse Aide II training modules.
  • Develop and prepare tests to evaluate students; provide individual tutoring to students outside of the classroom as needed.
  • Provide classroom demonstrations on various equipment and machinery; develop laboratory assignments to provide hands on experience as appropriate.
  • Demonstrate competence regarding the handling of hazardous substances such as blood borne pathogens; annually undergo training and train students in such procedures.
  • Supervise students in the lab and clinical setting.
  • Participate in curriculum development, evaluation and change, attend faculty meetings as required.
  • Maintain accurate records of student attendance and performance; maintain other records and databases according to program needs or accreditation requirements.
  • Oversee the implementation of policies and procedures related to required teaching area.
  • Participate in all functions related to implementation of the programs systematic plan for evaluation.
  • Fill in for other instructors as needed.

 

Other Important Functions:

  • Assist the Nurse Aide Program Director with Nurse Aide Program site equipment maintenanceorganization of documentation and implementation of the Nurse Aide program.
  • Participate in a variety of student related administrative activities including reviewing admission requirements, progress and qualifications for graduation
  • Stay abreast of new developments and changes in various academic fields; participate in staff development programs, workshops, seminars and other continuing education programs as appropriate.
  • Assess the relevancy and impact of various lessons; revise and improve lesson format; evaluate various textbooks and select books to be used for future classes.
  • Assist in the recruitment of students.
  • Participate on college committees and in other institutional activities and programs.
  • Demonstrate community involvement.
  • Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Knowledge of:

  • Adult instruction and learning processes.
  • Classroom, laboratory and clinical instructional techniques, skills and procedures.
  • Principles and procedures of academic and instructional program development and administration in the area of assignment.
  • Current trends, research and development in the area of assignment.

Ability To:

  • Prepare and present information and material in a classroom, lab or clinical instructional situation.
  • Problem solve with and demonstrate critical thinking skills and techniques.
  • Demonstrate Sensitivity and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
  • To perform and instruct skills according to NC DPHSR the NCBON guidelines.
  • Supervise and assess students in a hospital, long-term care facility or hospice.
  • Communicate effectively with students, other CFCC Faculty/Staff, on-site staff, residents and families of residents.
  • Demonstrate the basic ADL skills and personal care skills pertaining to resident care in a long-term care, hospital, and/or hospice facility.
  • Pay meticulous attention to detail.
  • Maintain a professional demeanor and appearance in all situations to those you are working with and for and act a role model for the students in the program.
  • Maintain effective audio-visual discrimination and perception needed for:
  • Making observations
  • Reading and writing
  • Communicating with others
  • Operating assigned equipment
  • Handling varied tasks simultaneously.
  • Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities, which              may include the following:
  • Standing or sitting for extended periods of time
  • Operating assigned equipment
  • Preparing and presenting instructional material.
  • Maintain mental capacity, which allows the capability of:
  • Making sound decisions
  • Responding to questions
  • Demonstrating intellectual capabilities.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
  • Interpret and apply CFCC goals, objectives, policies, procedures, rules, and regulations 
  • Maintain effective audio-visual discrimination and perception needed for:
    1. Making observations
    2. Reading and writing

    4. Operating assigned equipment
    5. Handling varied tasks simultaneously
  • Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities, which may include the following:

    4. Bending, stooping, climbing, or lifting up to 50 pounds
