Minimum Qualifications

AS degree in Computer Integrated Machining or related field of study.  Five years of work experience in the field. Experience in CNC mill and lathe setup on multiple types of controls and operation. Proficient with CAD/CAM and solid modeling, CNC turning and machining centers, including CNC G-codes and M-codes, Cartesian Coordinate system, selection of CNC tooling, calculating proper feeds, speeds, and depths of cut is critical, along with excellent customer service skills.

Excellent oral and written communication skills.  Microsoft Office proficient. 

Preferred Qualifications

BS or MS degree in Computer Integrated Machining or related field of study with 10 years' work experience in the field.   Experience with wire EDM, CMM and injection molding.  MasterCam/FeatureCam proficient. Community College teaching experience highly desired.  Experience developing a curriculum is preferred.  Online training with ToolingU or similar is preferred. The capability of performing tool offsets, tool pre-setting, work shift reference and general maintenance specific to CNC machinery is a plus. Lean manufacturing experience is preferred.

 

Position Description

 

 

PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION:

The Machining Instructor will teach classes in the traditional machining center and the advanced machining center which promote and enhance the college's commitment to excellence in instruction and which supports the current needs of the students and faculty.  The advanced machining center, funded by a grant from the Golden LEAF Foundation, is a state-of-the art education and training center for advanced metal forming, machining up to and including 5-axis contours, computer aided design (CAD), manufacturing (CAM) and engineering (CAE).
Faculty members are responsible to the Dean or Program Manager.  The relationship of the faculty member to the student is one of leader, teacher, adviser and facilitator of learning.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

  • The Machining Instructor will organize and develop facilities associated with instruction areas, maintain office hours, advise students and assist with registration.
  • Develop and/or maintain course syllabi and provide each student with a written statement of course requirements at the beginning of the semester including texts, course content and competencies and evaluation.
  • Teach courses as assigned in accordance with the established syllabi.
    Recommending for approval adequate instructional materials for courses within the assigned area of responsibility.
  • Monitoring the development and/or implementation of program activities. Assisting in departmental/program recruitment and placement activities.
  • Participating in the development of divisional and departmental strategic plans and participating in the formulation, interpretation, and application of division policies and procedures (through committee assignments, departmental meetings, etc.).
  • Become NIMS certified in four basic areas.
  • Maintain professional competence; participation in professional development activities.
  • Preventative maintenance of all equipment in labs.  Demonstrates mastery of machine shop safety.
  • Conduct evaluations of student performance and assign grades on the basis of such evaluations.
  • Maintain records of student attendance and grades according to college and state policy and procedure.
  • Responsible for administering student surveys in classes as prescribed by College procedure and discussing results with Dean or Program Manager.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of articulation programs and agreements and promote student participation in such programs.
  • Work with students and employers in occupational settings, on-the-job training, practicums, internships and similar work-related situations as needed.
  • Maintain professional skills and subject expertise through continual study and research in discipline and through involvement in professional organizations.
  • Donate academic expertise in the local, state or national community when appropriate to fulfill the community relations goals of the College.
  • Serve on faculty, college and/or University and Community College System of North Carolina committees as appropriate.
  • Support and encourage college-sponsored activities.
  • Learn new guidelines and processes in performing duties and advising students.
  • Create a student-centered environment.
  • Work toward operational excellence; continuous improvement of processes.
  • Implement innovative strategies to meet the needs of students and improve processes.
  • Interact with co-workers and perform tasks with the highest level of integrity.
  • Work cooperatively with faculty, staff, students, and our learning community.
  • Promote and support HCC's mission, vision, and values and promote and support coworkers in the most positive manner.
  • Occasional operation of a college-owned vehicle.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as required and/or assigned.
