Education Minimum:  Associate degree from an accredited institution or appropriate combination of education and experience.

Position Description

Summary 
The CTE Specialist supports students in career exploration, career readiness, work-based learning opportunities, and job placement for students in Health Sciences Programs. The CTE Specialist will also collaborate with and build relationships with Health Sciences students, faculty and industry partners. This position is full-time grant-funded.

 

Knowledge & Responsibilities:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  • Works with students in understanding and exploring Health Sciences careers and options available  
  • Works with applicants to assist them through the steps of the health program’s competitive admission process
  • Coordinates and provides health information sessions to potential health science students
  • Assists Health Sciences students in using career assessment tools and navigating online resources to include the career center job posting site.
  • Assists new students in navigating the enrollment process including advising, new student orientation, financial aid, and registration of first-time students
  • Serves on health program’s admissions committees
  • Develops a working knowledge of College policies and procedures, academic programs, RISE placement, continuing education programs, and student services
  • Develops relationships with Health Sciences Industry partners to facilitate work-based learning opportunities for students (job shadowing, internships, industry tours, etc.)
  • Partners with Health Sciences program faculty to assist students in goal attainment
  • Collaborates with contacts at Capital Area Workforce Development Board and NC Works to facilitate career exploration and/or job placement for Health Sciences students
  • Provides career-readiness training to students 
  • Contact students coded in the pre- Health Science Programs to provide assistance with processes and program selection
  • Assists students through the steps of the competitive admissions programs 
  • Assists with the planning, executing and hosting of related career center events, workshops, recruiting events, and information sessions
  • Works with students to identify barriers to success and strategies to overcome them using campus resources
  • Assists with collecting data on student placement.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Language Skills                                             

  • Ability to read, analyze, interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

 
Mathematical Skills                                                  

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability                                                     

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral diagram, or schedule form

 
Computer Skills                                            
To perform this job successfully, an individual should be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point.  Familiarity with college systems (Colleague, E-procurement, Time-Clocks etc…) is a plus.
