Minimum Qualifications

Must be a dental hygienist or a dentist who is a graduate of a program accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation. Requires a Master’s Degree in Dental Hygiene or a dentist with a background in education and the professional experience necessary to understand and fulfill the program goals.  Must have a current NC Dental or Dental Hygiene license or be license eligible. Must be American Heart Association BLS certified. Four years of full-time clinical practice in dental hygiene or any combination of part-time experience to equal four full years. Two years of full-time teaching experience, preferably in a combination of didactic and clinical courses at a dental hygiene program or a combination of part-time experience to equal two full years. Two years of increasing responsible experience within a Dental Hygiene Program in an administrative capacity or demonstrating responsibilities for academic and instructional coursework. Working knowledge of the Commission on Dental Accreditation process. Must have managerial skills.

Position Description

Participate in the development, implementation, and review of curriculum, courses, and programs by recommending schedule of courses and instructor assignments; by reviewing and/or developing syllabi for courses; by coordinating, planning, and participating in the instruction of classes; by reviewing and selecting textbooks; and by providing oversight for various course delivery methods. Assure that all assigned applicable programs, curriculum, and program faculty adhere to criteria of regional, national, and/or specialized accrediting agencies, and maintain accreditation status; aid in achieving additional accreditations in applicable programs when possible. Improve academic course quality by researching and implementing best practices in the area(s) of assignment; share best practices with supervised instructors. Supervise assigned full-time and part-time instructional personnel by leading in selection, training, and evaluation for assigned department; provide or coordinate staff training; participate in employee recognitions; work with employees to correct deficiencies; implement discipline and termination procedures. Oversee allocation of departmental funds and equipment by working closely with appropriate Dean to develop and administer departmental budget; recommending funds for equipment, materials, and supplies; recommending staffing needs; monitoring and approving expenditures and implementing midyear adjustments. Provide management and oversight of areas that generate cash receipts. Maintain professional contacts with business and industry as appropriate to the respective department(s). Organize and host Advisory Board meetings. Provide assistance to students, faculty, and staff who have questions and/or concerns about departmental functions. Provide input into the development of clinical sites as appropriate for program.

Essential Functions: Under the supervision of the Program Administrator, the Instructor plans and implements educational activities to ensure that student learning outcomes are consistent with program learning outcomes and the mission of the College. The Instructor participates in ongoing
professional development and campus activities and fulfills committee and quality enhancement responsibilities. The Instructor ensures continuous improvement of instruction by means of ongoing program assessment.

Duties and Responsibilities
o Manages full-time and part-time dental hygiene faculty and appropriate support personnel.
o Manages dental curriculum development, evaluation, and revision.
o Maintains dental program approval/accreditation/regulatory requirements.
o Develops, administers, and manages the dental program budget.
o Coordinates, evaluates, and participates in determining admission criteria and procedures as well as student promotion and retention criteria.
o Monitors dental student progression and concerns.
o Assess, plan, and operate program facilities.
o Negotiates with our clinical partners for educational use of facilities.
o Maintains program outcome data for the purpose of program improvement.
o Prepares ongoing program/curriculum review reports as required by agencies and college policy.
o Ensures a comprehensive program/curriculum review process.
o Provides input into faculty evaluation.
o Provides program or department in-service and faculty development.

Other Administrative Duties
o Participate in communications with the college and department and meet deadlines as required
o Participate in committee assignments
o Submit required reports
o Participate in the college's assessment process, as required
o Fulfill all contract provisions
o Maintain a high level of professionalism as a representative of the college
o Maintain accurate attendance and scholastic records of students
o Maintain current knowledge of programs, trends, and new developments in area of expertise.
o Ensure educational program quality by engaging in continuous improvement through assessment of student learning outcomes.
o Contribute to the College’s Quality Enhancement Plan.
