Education Minimum:  Master's Degree.
 
Education Preferred:  Master of Science Degree in Nursing or Master of Science Degree in Healthcare related field.

Experience Minimum:  Three to five years of experience in leadership role.  Verifiable experience supervising and evaluating employees.  Experience with regulatory and accreditation process.

Additional Qualifications: (Desired)

  • Professional Liability Insurance.
  • Registered Nurse with unrestricted license to practice in North Carolina.

Position Description

Summary
Under direction of the Associate Vice President of Health, Wellness, & Human Services, the Department Chair of Allied Health directs, supervises, and evaluates instruction for the programs within the department. Employees in this classification perform administrative and instructional work. Position is responsible for supervising faculty; preparing class schedules; counseling and advising students; assisting with faculty selection; and teaching classes. Performs work as required. **This is a full-time 9.5 month position.**

 

Knowledge & Responsibilities:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  • Provides leadership for programs, and ensures compliance with program accreditation and approval bodies, as applicable. 
  • Supervises and ensures compliance in program policies. 
  • Coordinates, plans, and evaluates all aspects of the department. 
  • Collaborates with Department Chairs within the Health, Wellness, and Human Services Department and across the division to coordinate course offerings and support student achievement. 
  • Teaches classes at a reduced faculty load according to the workload policy.
  • Advises students within the health programs. 
  • Creates new programming/services to support community needs and student outcomes.
  • Explores and initiates new programs and course offerings that align with college Strategic Enrollment Plan (SEM). 
  • Supervises all aspects of the Health Science Information Session
  • Leads, attends, and/or participates in college related functions as required such as orientations, program meetings, staff development activities, committees, and workshops. 
  • Supervises the scheduling of classes, coordinates course scheduling with other programs, and evaluates instruction (Continuing Education and Curriculum). 
  • Supports the total mission of the college through attendance of various college functions. 
  • Serves on various college and professional committees. 
  • Conducts and/or attends faculty, program, and advisory committee meetings. 
  • Meets core curriculum model adopted by Community College system and complies with SACS and/or accreditation criteria. 
  • Maintains a variety of records and reports including up to date test files and curricular plans. 
  • Assuming the authority and responsibility along with the Directors for each program supervising, for the development and implementation of curriculum, for student admission and progression, and for graduation requirements. 
  • Developing position descriptions for faculty and assist in the recruitment and selection of faculty in accordance with personnel policies of the College. 
  • Coordinating and participating in program evaluation and the development, implementation, and evaluation of the annual departmental plan, and program reviews and other required documents. 
  • Participates and ensures compliance with required program accreditation reports.
  • Evaluates direct reports and conducts classroom visits.
  • Coordinating the development, implementation, and evaluation of policies specific to programs supervising. 
  • Assists with the selection, recruitment, and retention of students in the pre-health programs and Nursing & Allied Health Programs.
  • Performing other duties as assigned by the Associate Vice President of Health, Wellness & Human Services related to special projects as a part of administrative responsibilities. 
  • Participating in affairs of the College including recruitment of students, maintenance of the learning environment, student activities, and other duties assigned by the College Administration. 
  • Other duties as assigned. 

 
Supervisory Responsibilities:  Supervises Director's and faculty within the Allied Health Programs, and Health Science Student Navigator.

Language Skills    
Effective written and verbal communication skills are required.                                    

Mathematical Skills  
Ability to perform basic math computations including adding, subtracting, multiplying and averaging all units of measure. Ability to compute fractions, percentages and decimals.

Reasoning Ability
Ability to use effective critical thinking, problem solving and decision-making skills.

Computer Skills                                  
To perform this job successfully an individual should be proficient in a Windows environment and have knowledge of email systems, PowerPoint, Blackboard and online lab environments.
