Position Description

Summary 
Plans, organizes, and coordinates the efforts of the Credit and Non-Credit Biotechnology training programs relative to planning, budgeting, generating reports, hiring and supervising departmental personnel, and all other aspects of the operation of the department.  Provides overall management of classes and BIOSWE (BIO Simulated Work Environment).

 

Knowledge & Responsibilities:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Manages the administration of all biotechnology and bioprocessing related classes including, recruiting and hiring part-time instructors, completing class set-up forms
  • Supervises all full and part time instructors including contracts, instruction, and evaluations.
  • Instructs at least one class per semester.
  • Assists students and potential students with questions and inquiries about the programs in Biotechnology.
  • Oversees coordination of information sessions.
  • Monitors and assists in maintaining program equipment and supplies.
  • Partners with Customized Training to provide training assistance and resources.
  • Works closely with the local biomanufacturing and pharmaceutical industries to ensure quality programming.
  • Coordinates with faculty to develop new curricula based upon the industry needs.
  • Markets programs to general public and K-12 institutions.
  • Partners with the NC BioNetwork to provide additional resources for instruction
  • Leads Advisory Board for course and program quality assurance
  • Coordinates department planning and budgeting, and ensures that all deadlines are met.
  • Works with the AVP and program area faculty and staff to ensure that program and service information and reports are accurate, and also to ensure compliance with all institutional policies and procedures, and other laws, rules and guidelines.
  • Manages annual and long-range plans for Biotechnology programs.
  • Serves on task forces and committees as requested.
  • Participates in professional organizations and associations.
  • Maintains personal certifications and stays abreast of professional advancements.
  • Connect and partner with internal stakeholders regarding development of continuing education opportunities
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 
Supervisory Responsibilities                                                
Directly supervises credit and non-credit full and part time instructors as well as the Biotechnology Coordinator.  Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems and instructing in the program area.
