Education Minimum: Certificate/Diploma in Diesel and Heavy Equipment Technology or related field.  Associate degree is required upon hire OR within two years of employment. In lieu of degree,  Ten (10) years of documented experience in truck or equipment Service and Repair Technician with ASE certification(s) and other industry certifications may be accepted on an individual basis.

Experience Minimum:  Five (5)  years of work experience as a truck or equipment Service and Repair Technician 

Preferred Qualifications

Education Preferred:  Associate Degree in Diesel and Heavy Equipment Technology or related field.

Experience Preferred:  Eight (8)  years of work experience as a truck or equipment Service and Repair Technician, and some teaching/training experience.

Position Description

Summary 
Under general supervision, the purpose of this position is to provide instruction in the certificate, diploma, and A.A.S. programs for the Diesel and Heavy Equipment Technology trade. Employee must possess a commitment to quality teaching and student achievement. Employees in this classification perform instructional work. Position is responsible for teaching classes and instructing students; administering tests; evaluating work; and counseling/advising students. Perform related work as required. This is a 9.5 M position.

Associate degree is required upon hire OR within two years of employment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Teach classes: instruct students on use of all types of equipment, test equipment and tools used in the Diesel and Heavy Equipment Industry (18-25-hour teaching load day and/or evening).
  • Supervise work experience activities; evaluate student work.
  • Prepare lesson plans and activities; write course overviews and outlines.
  • Prepare attendance reports and administers attendance policy; administer and respond to annual evaluation reports; prepare and maintain a variety of paperwork. 
  • Average grades and prepare student grade reports.
  • Advise students
  • Determine need for supplies; ensure proper storage and security of supplies; obtain quotes as needed.  
  • Maintain security of tools and equipment.
  • Maintain cleanliness of labs/classroom area. Maintain and secure equipment; perform general maintenance in the Diesel program.
  • Attend college-wide meetings; staff development conferences and workshops, and faculty meetings.
  • Recruit new students for programs.
  • Supervise adjunct faculty.

Language Skills                                            

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.   
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Mathematical Skills  

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.                         

Reasoning Ability                                         

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. 
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

 
Computer Skills                                           
To perform this job successfully, an individual should be proficient in Colleague and IIPS software programs, and Microsoft Word and Excel.
 
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

  •  ASE Medium/Heavy Truck preferred. Any certifications or license a plus such as: Class A CDL, 609 refrigerant license, NC3 Certifications etc.
