Education Minimum:  Bachelor’s degree in web development, graphic design, marketing or related field and three to five years of professional experience in web site management and creating online communications.

Education Preferred:  Bachelor’s degree in web development, graphic design, marketing or related field and three to five years of professional experience in web site management and creating online communications. Experience maintaining WordPress in an enterprise environment. Community college or higher education experience preferred.

Experience Minimum:  At least 7 years of progressive leadership responsibilities and experience managing communications and/or marketing in a complex, dynamic environment.

Experience Preferred:  Experience in a higher education setting.

Position Description

Summary
The Director of Digital & Content Strategy works within the Communications Department and is responsible for the strategy, development, management, and maintenance of the College’s public-facing web presence and content coordination across all institutional platforms.  The person in this position should have a strong understanding and demonstrated experience in digital marketing, accessible web content development and design, user experience, and content management. The position requires exceptionally strong writing and communication skills as well as broad capacity for analyzing and synthesizing information. 

 

Knowledge & Responsibilities:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develops, directs, and implements the college’s digital marketing and communications strategy, including College Web site strategy, content governance, and inventory.
  • Ensures the Web site meets all federal ADA and WCAG 2.0 standards and requirements for accessibility.
  • Leads efforts to ensure the JCC Web site is accessible and functional from all devices and meets the ever-changing needs of prospective and current students.
  • Manages content, site architecture, design and templates for the college Web site.
  • Monitors the Web site to ensure content is current, effective and consistent with other messaging
  • Utilizes the latest analytics tools to identify online traffic patterns and trends related to platform utilization, user experience, and search engine optimization standards.
  • Leverages content across platforms for multiple purposes and stakeholders.
  • Identifies themes in content for use in marketing and visibility campaigns
  • Creates policies and procedures (based on best practices for higher education) to ensure clear and consist workflows for the effective and efficient management of all content.
  • Identifies content that is performing well with audiences and makes recommendations for repurposing those stories for other platforms and institutional publications. Assists campus departments with creation of web content.
  • Trains content managers to follow best practices and accessibility requirements for web content.
  • Leads periodic redesign of Web site.
  • Collaborates with various cross-functional and departmental leaders to provide necessary digital marketing support services.
  • Works closely with colleagues in admissions, instruction, advancement and other key administrators to improve digital communications.
  • Tracks online traffic to identify trends in site usage, and regularly reviews web pages to ensure best practice search optimization.
  • Tracks the impact of JCC’s digital presence and develops web analytics reports to identify site improvements.
  • Serves as the subject matter expert on web analytics and stays abreast of industry best practices and new opportunities.
  • Analyzes and reports on performance of key digital initiatives including online and social media advertising and makes recommendations for improvements.
  • Identifies and manages relationships with digital advertising providers to effectively and efficiently reach key audiences via online channels.

Knowledge, skills, abilities, and worker characteristics:
 Knowledge of mobile marketing trends and regularly shares recommendations on tactics and
   strategies;
 Strong knowledge of SEO, SEM, Google Analytics, Google AdWords and social platforms;
 Strong understanding of website design; HTML, CSS, PHP and other common web languages;
  WordPress theme and plugin development
 Experience in search and social advertising; URL architecting; and programmatic advertising.
 Experience with CRM (customer relationship management) tools.
 Highly creative with experience devising effective digital assets, digital campaigns and web
  presence.
 Self-starter with excellent organizational skills with proven track record in project management
   and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
 Outstanding written, verbal and communication skills and ability to demonstrate leadership and
   make tough decisions but exercise diplomacy and consensus building with college   
   stakeholders.
 Strong analytical skills proven marketing analytics experience.
 Team-player with a positive outlook.
 Knowledge of ADA and WCAG 2.0 requirements.

Supervisory Responsibilities:  This position currently does not supervise anyone.
