Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited College or University
One year of professional experience in peer mentoring, coaching, academic advising and/or teaching experience working with diverse populations including low-income, first-generation college students in a community college or university setting.
Experience utilizing software applications and student information systems (Microsoft Office, Access, Colleague, Informer, etc.).
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree preferred
Position Description
The primary responsibility of this position is to assist under-represented student populations in determining career goals and identifying community college programs that would enable students to achieve these goals. Coordinates operations of the Nixon Leader’s Center. Provides academic and holistic advising, career guidance, and academic support services to students by collecting, organizing, and analyzing information through the College’s Student Information System and Aviso Retention Software. Participates in College programs, activities, and committees which are designed to promote student persistence, retention, and completion with a focus on under-represented student populations. The Coordinator will collaborate with other staff and departments in developing educational and social programming that fosters a culture of inclusion and respect throughout the CFCC community. Works closely with Admissions & Recruitment to increase diversity among students. This position reports directly to the VP Student Services & Enrollment Management.
Essential Functions:
• Coordinate recruitment and retention activities for CFCC and Nixon Leaders Center, with a particular focus on under-represented students. Track, document, and report participant progress; increase student retention and graduation rates; and increase the number of underrepresented students who transfer to four-year colleges and universities.
• Coordinate operational aspects of Nixon Leaders Center including events management, reporting programmatic outcomes, and performing community outreach as appropriate.
• Provide mentoring and supports under-represented students’ academic and personal success.
• Design, develop and implement innovative outreach programs using diversity and inclusion best practice in support of CFCC’s strategic initiatives.
• Collaborate with campus stakeholders who serve minority and underrepresented students to foster a positive climate that leads to educational equity.
• Act as a liaison to instructors, administrators and other staff regarding culture, heritage and background of minority and underrepresented students and their families.
• Be a student advocate when appropriate.
• Refer students to the appropriate specialized staff for issues such as comprehensive counseling, financial assistance, study abroad, etc.
• Stay abreast of changing institutional information including admissions requirements, new programs, course changes, deadlines, important dates, costs, etc.
• Develop partnerships with existing community organizations serving traditionally underrepresented student populations
• Serve as an advocate to effectively monitor and assess the on-campus experiences of under-represented students.
• Collaborates with Academic Affairs, Student Affairs and other student success initiatives to meet program and College goals for addressing the needs of under-represented students.
• Design and help implement recruitment strategies for under-represented students with the goal of creating a more diverse student population.
• Serves as primary contact for all LEAP initiatives; serves as chair for the TRUST diversity committee.
• Provide proactive outreach to connect under-represented students with on campus and community resources to ensure student success.
• Monitors the Nixon Leaders’ Center budget, assesses student learning and program outcomes for continuous improvement.
