Education Minimum: Associate degree
Education Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in related field.
Experience Minimum: Two (2) years teaching experience in a paramedic level program or equivalent. Three to five years work experience as a paramedic provider.
Experience Preferred: Three (3) to five (5) years teaching experience in a paramedic level program. Five to ten years work experience as a paramedic provider.

- NCOEMS Credentialed Paramedic
- NC OEMS Level I Paramedic Instructor

Position Description
Summary
Under general supervision, the purpose of the position is to provide a comprehensive educational instructional program committed to quality teaching and successful student achievement. Employees in this classification perform instructional work. Position is responsible for teaching classes and instructing students; preparing lesson plans; preparing tests; grading papers; and counseling and advising students. Performs related work as required. This is a 12 month position.
Knowledge & Responsibilities:
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Teaches EMS courses and instructs students using a variety of instruction modalities.
- Prepares lesson plans and lectures, writes course overviews and outlines.
- Prepare tests, class projects and case studies, grades papers, averages grades, prepares grade reports, coordinates make-up tests and conducts learning labs as needed.
- Counsels and advises students, assists in registration.
- Selects textbooks, videos and internet activities appropriate for EMS classes.
- Prepare course setup documents, instructor contracts, coordinate and schedule adjunct instructors, finalize course close out documents.
- Prepares attendance reports and administers attendance policy, prepares travel and travel expense reports, responds to annual evaluation report.
- Works on assigned committees, attends school-wide events, attends professional development conferences and attends faculty meetings, and keeps current in accounting and business affairs via various media and events.
- Prepares and submits reports as required by program accreditation agencies.
- Coordinate National Association of EMT (NAEMT), American Heart Association (AHA) and other specialty certification courses.
- Maintains credentials as an NCOEMS paramedic provider and as an NCOEMS Level I or II Paramedic Instructor; maintains other EMS related instructor credentials.

Communication Skills
Ability to speak effectively before groups of students, employees, faculty, administrators and outside organizations. Ability to write routine reports and correspondences, and create college-level instructional materials. Ability to read and interpret program related educational materials, student reports, and medical related documents.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply common sense understanding and carry out instructions furnished in oral, written or other communication forms. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized and non-standardized situations.
Computer Skills
Individuals should be proficient in basic computer and email operations and Microsoft Office software. The individual should also have the ability to learn the use of learning management systems, advising and registration software and program specific software.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to perform basic and advanced medication calculations.
