Education Minimum:  Associates Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.
 
Education Preferred:  B.S. in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.
 
Experience Minimum:  10 years in construction management, engineering, facilities management, or a related field.
 
Experience Preferred:  15 years in construction management, engineering, facilities management, or a related field.

Position Description

Summary
Engineer performs activities related to facilities and grounds related projects, planning, representing ownership, developing scope for projects, managing projects, creating maintenance plans, and other facility related activities.

 

Knowledge & Responsibilities:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:  

  • Assist in the oversite of the college’s physical plant.  This includes but is not limited to:  grounds and building construction, grounds and building maintenance, strategic planning, owner representation for contracted services, and developing maintenance scheduling plans.
  • Preconstruction Services - Establish procedures for controlling contract drawings.  Initiates set-up of a job management system.  Assists with the scopes of work, bid package development and help solicit contractors and suppliers.  Participates in the constructability reviews.
  • Project Start-up and Scheduling.  Assists in the development of the site utilization plan.  Assists in the review and coordination of the Safety and Quality Control Program.  Represents college with pre-work contractor orientation meetings, ensuring documentation is completed for each contractor including material deliveries, site specific safety, sustainability and quality control issues.  Manages submittal log and coordinates submittals and coordination documents with contractors.
  • Project Administration, Coordination and Close-out.  Responsible for proactive administration of reviewing and processing all submittal data and shop drawings to ensure project schedules are expedited and materials and services are delivered on time.  Conducts preconstruction meetings with contractors, assisted by the contractor’s Project Manager and/or Superintendent.  Serves as the onsite quality manager for assigned trades by verifying contractor deliverables meet approved submittal requirements.  Attends and participates in meetings with Architect/Engineer as owner representatives, provides information and assists the contractor’s Project Manager in the preparation of progress reports/meeting minutes.  Reviews proposal change documents from contractors/suppliers and assists in collecting pricing and/or reviews change proposal requests for internal pricing review and necessity.
  • Create and enforce preventive maintenance plans, painting schedules, equipment replacement schedules, deferred maintenance plans, and other facility related planning paradigms.
  • Assess the condition of facilities with regard to deferred maintenance needs.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:  Does not supervise employees.

 

Additional Information:

Language Skills
Fluency in English, fluency in other languages a plus.    
                                                
Mathematical Skills
Ability to calculate and understand complex engineering formulas, and a demonstrated ability to understand budgets.            
 
Reasoning Ability
Ability to strategically plan for facility maintenance, repair, and renovation.  Ability to understand blue prints, as-builts, and complex engineering calculations.  Ability to create budgets based on construction requirements.     
                        
Computer Skills
 Financial software, Microsoft 365 Office, email packages, internet browsers, and engineering related software.                                             
 

Physical Demands
Sit for long periods of time.  See details of objects; see differences between colors, shades, and brightness.  Hear sounds and recognize the difference between them.  Focus on the source of a sound and ignore others.   Determine the distance between objects.   Ability to climb ladders to inspect rooftops.
 
Work Environment
Professional administrative work environment.  Outdoor work environment may include working in inclement weather or summer heat in a capacity to inspect, analyze, and assess outdoor facility projects.
