Minimum Qualifications

Associate in Applied Science degree in a business related field.  Some experience in lending or financial aid in a college environment is desired.  Proficiency in Microsoft Office suites, and Google applications. Ability to communicate with students verbally and in written form.  Ability to be discrete, explanatory, thorough, and rational when handling difficult and confidential student data.

Position Description

Office Administration:

  1. Establish appointments, handle telephone calls, and execute correspondence and memoranda.
  2. Prepare and maintain student files.
  3. Collect documentation for verification purposes.
  4. Complete informational requests for outside agencies (Social Services, WIOA, etc.)
  5. Receive and distribute all mail, faxes, and request for print shop materials.
  6. Maintain an office inventory.
  7. Maintain and update office letters and documents in Colleague.
  8. Prepare and package mailings.
  9. Responsible for cross training fellow Financial Aid staff members.

Counseling:

  1. Receives, directs, and assist visitors and/or students.
  2.  Assist applicants in completion of financial aid applications and instruct them on their responsibility for completion of the application.
  3. Inform students and families about federal, state, and institutional programs and funds available to assist community college students, included but not limited to Pell Grant, College Work-Study, NC Scholarship, and to actively encourage students to utilize the federal program funds.

 Program Administration:

  1. Advise students, parents, and internal clientele on private loan eligibility, loan types, loan application requirements and processing.
  2. Verify student private loan eligibility and student enrollment status.
  3. Prepare student private loan awards in Colleague Software and communicate award information to eligible students.
  4. Manage posting of aid to student accounts in Colleague.
  5. Manage the awarding and disbursing of the NC Child Care Grant program. 
  6. Prepare and deliver presentations, if requested for financial functions.
  7. Assist, as needed, in the counseling of students and awarding of all financial aid programs.
  8. Assist with collection and preparation of financial aid appeal data required by the Financial Aid Committee.
  9. Gathers and compiles data pertaining to federal and state reporting requirements.

Support of Mission/Related Responsibilities:

  1. Assist with various college functions (CFI’s FAFSA Day, Fall and Spring New Student Orientation, Graduation, ACA 111 class presentations, etc.).  Serves on college committees as assigned.
  2. Assist other areas of the Student Services Department in outreach and recruiting functions.
  3. Other duties as assigned.

Professional Development:
       1.   Maintain membership in NCASFAA (North Carolina Association of Financial Aid Administrators).
       2.   Attend on and off campus training opportunities.
