Minimum Qualifications

Associates Degree required. Demonstrated customer service experience and the ability to work in a congenial and professional manner. Detail oriented and the ability to problem solve. Excellent written and oral communication skills.

 

Preferred Qualifications

Financial Aid experience; Working knowledge of budgeting, balancing accounts and information processing.  Demonstrated public speaking background; Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint) and Outlook. Prior experience with NC Community College System information system experience (Ellucian) is highly preferred; Experience working with students, faculty, and staff in higher education setting. 

Position Description

 

PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION:

Coordinate the awarding of the HCC scholarship program. Assist with financial aid processing and maintaining student records. Counsel students on the financial aid process.

 

 

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

 

  • In coordination with the Foundation Office, oversee the activities of the scholarship process, both curriculum and continuing education.
  • Responsible for providing an up to date master list of all scholarships, scholarship applications, selection, and awarding of scholarships.
  • Advertise available scholarships and deadlines. Responsible for management of Award Management program.
  • Recommend and award Emergency and Extenuating scholarships.
  • Prepare deposits for Agency Scholarships.
  • Reconcile and balance all scholarship accounts with the business office.
  • Assist the Foundation Office with coordinating the annual Scholarship Recognition Event.
  • Attend all Scholarship Committee meetings and provide support in awarding of scholarships.
  • Attend all Foundation Board meetings and provide updates.
  • Process students’ financial aid applications including completion and electronic submission of the FAFSA.
  • Counsel students/potential students on all aspects of financial aid.
  • Follow Federal, State, and Institutional guidelines for financial aid eligibility while processing and maintaining accurate student records.
  • Participate as a team member with Student Services staff including assisting with coverage of front desk.
  • Responsible for System Office reporting of Scholarships.
  • Maintain HCC scholarship web page.
  • Miscellaneous tasks: complete purchase orders, file student documentation, assist with registration, serve on campus committees, assist with graduation, and other duties as assigned.
  • May operate college owned vehicle.
