Minimum Qualifications

  • High School or Equivalent and 3 years work experience in law enforcement or related field.        
    Ensures property is protected against fire, theft, vandalism and illegal entry.
  • Ability to recognize hazardous situations or suspicious incidents or events and report them to the Chief of Security.
  • Ability to gather and organize information, and achieve logical conclusions in a timely manner.
  • Ability to weigh alternatives and make decisions that reflect the facts of a situation.
  • Ability to perform routine tasks with care and attention ensuring all parts of the tasks are complete.
  • Ensures employees working after normal hours are safe by making periodic checks.
  • Escorting employees to vehicles upon request.
  • Use of a computer system and other electronic or manual devices to secure entrances and exits to buildings at specified times.
  • Assist visitors and citizens with directions, locating State agencies, and perform non-emergency services
  • Maintain good attendance record, punctuality, and abstain from abusing leave.
  • Work effectively with other people to accomplish organizational goals and identify/resolve problems.
  • as directed.
  • Must successfully complete drug screening and background check
  • Must possess a current valid North Carolina driver’s license

Preferred Qualifications

  • Basic computer skills
  • Five (5) years experience working in the field as a Certified Law Enforcement Officer
  • Experience working in a college or school environment as a Security Officer
  • An Associate’s degree from a regionally accredited institution and law enforcement experience

Position Description

The Security Officer will perform necessary security services including, but not limited to:

  • Be properly dressed and performing duties assigned by Chief of Security Officer or his supervisor.
  • Be available to work assignments to insure coverage as needed by the campus. 
  • Submit time sheets and other pertinent information to supervisor in a timely manner. 
  • Provide documentation of security events such as all investigations and activities reported to the Chief of Security.
  • Provide proper security coverage of events, such as on-campus board meetings, on an as-needed basis. 
  • Open all buildings, including alarms, on weekdays, as needed. 
  • Transport daily bank transactions. 
  • Constant patrol of buildings and parking lots to insure safety of students and campus property.
  • Enforce parking regulations and issue warning tickets as needed. 
  • Investigate and file documentation on all incidents reported on campus. Notify Chief of Security of all incidents.  (Notify Weldon Police Department if necessary).
  • Enforce implemented campus rules and regulations. 
  • Respond to all security system alarms. Reset activated alarms and notify any personnel of event status, such as monitoring company.
  • Raise and lower flags daily.
  • Secure all buildings, including setting alarms, after closing on weekdays. Be sure all buildings are vacant before securing. 
  • Maintain and secure Security Vehicle (golf cart) and store when not in use. 
  • Uses or maintains equipment, including specialized equipment, i.e. computer, fire extinguisher, etc. Communicates verbally and in writing; in person and by two-way radio and telephone, occasionally under stressful conditions. 
  • Other duties as assigned.
