Minimum Qualifications

Masters in Counseling, Psychology, Education or related field. Three years of experience in providing advisement/counseling to students at the high school or post-secondary level.  Three years of experience working with disadvantage youth, preferable low-income first generation youth at the post-secondary level.

Position Description

Essential Functions:

This information is intended to be descriptive of the key responsibilities of the position.  The list of essential function below does not identify all duties performed by any single incumbent in this position.

  • Assists in the overall coordination of the Student Support Services work plan.
  • Serves as a liaison between SSS, faculty, and staff.
  • Identifies and advises a diverse population of students.
  • Maintains a caseload of 125 or more SSS participants.
  • Plans and coordinates retention activities to include advising, student success workshops, college transfer programming and program marketing to the campus community.
  • Advise and assist students in registering for classes.
  • Interprets test scores for placement in courses.
  • Assists students in completing financial aid and four-year college admissions applications.
  • Maintains records, student data, and other documents related to the advising caseload.
  • Completes weekly, monthly and annual reports
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of TRiO and institutional policies.
  • Proficiency in use of information technology, including web browsers, word processors, email, spreadsheets, and databases.
  • Must be able to work evenings and weekends as necessary.
  • Perform other duties outlined by the Director of SSS within the parameters of the U. S. Department of Education guidelines.

  • Must maintain current knowledge of trends and new developments in federal TRiO programs.
  • Must complete TRiO training workshops annually
  • Must receive required hours of professional development as indicated in the HCC Personnel Manual.
