Education Minimum: High School Diploma or equivalent.
Experience Minimum: Three years driving a commercial motor vehicle which required a Class A CDL to operate with at least one year as a commercial motor vehicle driver trainer.
Experience Preferred: Five years driving a commercial motor vehicle which required a Class A CDL to operate with at least two years as a commercial motor vehicle driver trainer.

Position Description
Summary
The purpose of this position is to supervise and train students in the proper driving techniques and to administer commercial driver's license (CDL) testing as a third party examiner for the State of North Carolina. Employees in this classification perform instructional work. Position is responsible for teaching classes and instructing students; preparing lesson plans; preparing tests; grading papers; and counseling/advising students. Performs related work as required.
Knowledge & Responsibilities:
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Main duties are:
- Teach the prescribed course as outlined in the TDT (Truck Driver Training) Manual.
- Prepare daily schedule for students and vehicles.
- Provide guidance to students in the completion of daily logs.
- Evaluate the progress of each student in operation of highway and field vehicles.
- Motivate students and encourage safe driving habits.
- Pickup and return vehicles to and from repair facilities and/or sites as needed.
- Evaluate students on final road and field tests.
- Offer suggestions and participate in improvement of the TDT (Truck Driver Training) program.
- Take an active part in publicity and public relations, such as public school "Career Days" and Job Fairs.
- Assist and participate in "Special Events" such as food drives, careers days, etc., as requested.
- Drive tractor-trailers for JCC to assist with special projects as required.
- Participate in annual career development such as PDP (Professional Development Planning) and PAS (Professional Activity Summaries).
- Stay abreast of changes in the trucking industry and/or government regulations concerning trucking.
- Work diligently with each student to promote completion of the program and determine they can drive a truck safely.
- Be a Team Player.
- Respect and follow the "Chain of Command."

Additional Information:
Language Skills
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
- Prefer bilingual, Spanish speaking.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Reasoning Ability
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
- Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Ability to remain calm and focused under extreme stress is required.
Computer Skills
Basic computer and keyboarding skills. Experience working with diesel engine, transmission, braking system diagnostic and troubleshooting software.
