Minimum: Master's degree required in Instructional Technology or Master's degree or related disciplinary field.
Preferred: Experience teaching in a post-secondary environment, preferably at a community college. Specific experience with online instruction and educational technology is preferred. Experience working with diverse academic, socio-economic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of students.
The primary purpose and function of this position is to provide learning management system (LMS) support, creates accounts and assists students and staff to resolve account issues with the college’s Gmail, and maintains the curriculum course schedule. The position also provides training to assist faculty and staff with incorporating instructional design principles that reflect current learning theory and effectively employing technology to ensure sustained academic integrity and continual improvement of the student learning environment.

The primary purpose is to promote interest in and understanding of the methodologies of distance learning to students, staff, faculty, community citizens, and prospective students.
40% Serve as the HCC supervisor of Blackboard services:
Assist faculty with the development and implementation of distance learning courses and multimedia activities.
Monitor HCC’s Blackboard production and test servers, submit tickets as needed, and provide updates to faculty and students regarding enhancements and new features.
Troubleshoot and resolve Blackboard issues that surface or those that are escalated to the director’s attention by Blackboard Student Services.
Participate in Blackboard cohorts for updates regarding service pack releases.
Create Blackboard users and course shells for curriculum programs and continuing education.
Assist with training of personnel (faculty, staff, facilitator/work-study) in the operation and use of equipment in the NCIH room.
Develop and implement training for faculty and staff in the usage and regulations regarding network software including Gmail, WebAdvisor, Information Security, Colleague, and Blackboard in collaboration with Information Technology.
Facilitate the online Blackboard training course(s) for adjunct and new faculty.
Provide point-of-use instruction for faculty and staff as requested.
Serve as NC-NET liaison for the College.
10% Serve as the HCC Contact for distant learning operations:
Serve as the telecourse’s administrator and contact person for the N. C. Community College System office for distance learning.
Serve as contact person for N. C. Information Technology Services and schedule sessions for the Halifax Community College N. C. Information Highway (NCIH) facilities.
Broker partnerships with other community colleges to send and receive NCIH classes.
Manage, facilitates, and completes all paperwork associated with Ed2go online classes (previous duties of the Computer Skills Specialist.
15% Develop and submit reports:
Maintain statistical records regarding distance learning activities.
Submit monthly, quarterly, and semester reports at local and state levels.
Maintain ~HCC Forms~ and ~Distance Learning~ folders on the active directory file exchange.
Serve on various college committees as assigned
10% Creates accounts and assists students and staff to resolve account issues with the college’s Gmail.
20% Coordinate the submission of course offerings for each semester (fall, spring, and summer); enter data for each course into the Colleague software system.
Enter data into the computer program and into a spreadsheet for review and approval.
Make changes in Colleague to the schedule that department heads and school chairs have done.
Prepare schedules for posting to the College’s website and send to Webmaster prior to deadlines and early registration each semester.
Make changes to classes when called upon to do, which is frequently.
5% Other duties as assigned by the Vice President of Academic Affairs.
