Minimum Qualifications

Master's degree in education, higher education, curriculum & instruction, educational psychology, adult education or a related degree and three to five years of experience working in higher education; or three to five years working in a tutoring center in higher education or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities.

Remain active in professional tutoring organizations and activities.  Keep abreast of newest research and technological advances relative to the tutoring and academic support by reading professional journals and attending seminars, conferences, meetings, etc.
 
Maintain files of instructional and administrative materials.
 
Operate, utilize, and maintain various types of equipment and supplies including computers, calculator, copier, duplicator, audio-visual equipment, general office supplies, etc.
 
Maintain good working relationships and communicate information within the Department and with all departments/divisions on campus.  Serve on various College committees and organizations and attend meetings as required.  
 
Respond to phone calls, providing information and answering inquiries as appropriate.
 
Perform other duties as required.
 

Preferred Qualifications

Physical Requirements:   Must be physically able to operate a variety of types of office and audio-visual equipment including computer, copier, calculator, audio-visual equipment, etc.  Must be physically able to exert up to fifteen pounds of force occasionally and/or frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.  Physical demands are in excess of sedentary work;  position requires walking, standing, stooping, reaching, crouching, fingering, etc. for extended periods of time.  Must be able to lift and/or carry weights of approximately thirty pounds.
 
Data Conception:   Requires the ability to compare and or judge the readily observable functional, structural, or compositional characteristics (whether similar to or divergent from obvious standards) of data, people, or things.
 
Interpersonal Communication:   Requires the ability of speaking and/or signaling people to convey or exchange information.  Includes the giving of instructions to students and instructors.  Includes the receiving of information and instructions from supervisor.

Verbal Aptitude:   Requires the ability to record and deliver information and to follow verbal and written instructions.  Must be able to instruct others via effective verbal communication.
 
Numerical Aptitude:   Requires the ability to utilize mathematical formulas; add, subtract, multiply, and divide numbers; determine percentages and decimals; determine time and weight; apply algebraic, geometric, and trigonometric principles; utilizing descriptive statistics; apply principles of integral and differential calculus; utilize linear programming; etc.  Requires comprehensive knowledge of all of the above in order to instruct students in utilizing concepts and principles in solving problems.

Motor Coordination:   Requires the ability to coordinate hands and eyes in utilizing automated office and audio-visual equipment, etc.

Color Discrimination:   Requires the ability to differentiate colors and shades of color.

Position Description

Under limited supervision, the Tutor Coordinator is responsible for organizing tutorial support for incoming high school students enrolling in developmental math and English courses. The Tutor Coordinator will assess academic needs of students, develop learning outcomes, and create academic support and tutoring services for specialized student populations.  The coordinator will also provide supervision of tutors and monitor student progress. Reports to the Sr. Director of Developmental Education & Academic Support. This is a temporary CRRSAA grant funded position.

Oversee day-to-day operations of tutoring program and academic support services for incoming high school students who are enrolled in developmental math and English courses.
 
Identify academic needs due to loss of learning related to COVID-19 and implement targeted academic support programs.
 
Recruit, interview, hire, supervise, mentor, and evaluate tutors to lead tutoring sessions, serve as supplemental instruction leaders, and provide academic support specific to the targeted population.
 
Utilize data to develop learning outcomes and assessment measures for academic support programs.
 
Collaborate with academic departments and student development services including deans, department chairs, program coordinators, instructors, academic advisors, and other campus stakeholders to identify a variety of opportunities to provide tutoring and academic support.
  
Develop and conduct tutor training.
 
Develop an efficient and effective process to report, monitor, and assess tutoring sessions.
 
Maintain all records related to tutoring and academic support including required local, state, and federal documentation.
 
Receive, review, process, file and/or submit a variety of documents and reports such as tutor schedules, evaluation forms, professional development forms, annual objectives, various other forms, memos, and general letters of correspondence.
 
Develop and coordinate activities to promote academic support services for the targeted population.
 
Meet one-on-one with students as needed to provide academic counseling.
