An Associate’s degree in a computer-related field is required. A history of progressive game and simulation mastery is required. The applicant must possess excellent oral and written communication skills and have experience using information technology with the ability to work collaboratively with others. A valid North Carolina driver’s license with a good driving record is required.
Applicants must provide access to a digital portfolio showcasing gaming experience and accomplishments. The portfolio must be accessible via a URL posted in the resume that is uploaded during completion of the online application.
Two years of instructional experience is preferred. Experience working with a diverse population to include students, faculty, staff, and the general public is preferred. Experience with any of the following technologies is preferred: Moodle, Google Meet, Maya, ZBrush, Adobe CC, Unreal, Unity 3D, Substance Painter, HoloLens, Oculus, motion capture, C#. Online teaching experience is preferred but not required. Bilingual candidates are preferred.
The instructor is responsible for teaching a broad range of game and simulation courses, which may include on-campus and off-campus classes during the day, evening, weekend, and online. This position will include course development where applicable, designing and implementing learning strategies for students, timely submission of reports, participation on assigned committees, proactively staying current in information technologies, selecting hands-on technologies appropriate for research and student learning, maintaining instructional records, developing and evaluating course and program learning outcomes, and participation in professional development. The instructor supports student learning outside the classroom by holding regular office hours on campus and virtually to provide additional resources outside of class. The instructor responds to emails and participates in voice and video calls in a timely manner. Duties include public relations, serving as a liaison between the college and local industry and recruiting for programs within the Information Systems Technology Department and Business and Computer Technologies Division. Other duties include coordinating the curriculum through interaction with the department chair, program advisory committee, and employers. The instructor supervises students in work-based learning, assists graduates with job referral, represents the college with educational agencies and the community at large, and performs all other duties as assigned by the department chair. The instructor must have a high energy level and professional presence to develop quick rapport with faculty, employers and students. The instructor will proactively use a variety of professional development resources, which may include web-based, in-state travel and out-of-state travel when available. This position requires the ability to exert moderate physical effort in light work, typically involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling and could involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (up to 20 pounds) and occasionally heavier weight (up to 50 pounds).
