Minimum Qualifications

Vocational/technical school education in electrical or HVAC systems, or a related field, and one to two years of experience in general maintenance and repair; or any equivalent combination of education and experience, which provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities.  Must possess a valid N.C. driver's license.  

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
 
Must have an acceptable criminal background check. Must have an acceptable driver’s record check. Must attend required annual safety training. Must be willing to use proper safety equipment and follow proper safety procedures.

Position Description

Under general supervision, performs a variety of HVAC maintenance duties as required and in support of electrical, plumbing and general maintenance, etc.  Reports to the Assistant Director of Facility Services.

 

 Essential Job Functions:

HVAC mechanic in checking and maintaining air conditioning and heating systems in building on campus.  Performs such duties as checking air supply and equipment, servicing air-handling units, repairing HVAC equipment, etc.

 

Assists electrical, plumbing and general maintenance jobs that need to be done around the campus, etc.

 

Receives and/or reviews various records and reports including inquiries, issues, records, reports, correspondence, memos, etc.

 

Prepares and/or processes various records and reports including reports, records, correspondence, etc.

 

Refers to policy and procedure manuals, computer manuals, codes / laws / regulations, publications and reference texts, etc.

 

Operates a variety of office equipment such as computer, printer, telephone, calculator, etc.

 

Utilizes a variety of types of equipment including paint sprayers, power tools, torches, ladders, painting supplies, etc.

 

Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals including immediate supervisor, co-workers, staff, and the general public.

 

Assists the plumber with various jobs.

 

Performs a variety of general maintenance and repair duties in any area where such duties are needed such as replacing or repairing any defective equipment, replacing or repairing doors and other fixtures, etc.

 

Performs on call service on designated nights and weekends for emergency assistance due to maintenance of buildings, grounds, and equipment for the college, which includes checking all facilities for proper operation on weekends and holidays.

 

Sets up for various events which requires, but is not limited to, setting up tables, chairs, portable stage, removing desk and chairs from rooms, cleaning up after the event, and setting the room back up with employee safety considered.

 

Performs duties during inclement weather which requires, but is not limited to, storm clean up, storm notification or evacuation, and snow removal which may be required to be done during times the school is closed due to the inclement weather.

 

Move various items, which requires, but is not limited to, moving furniture, equipment and boxes, and rearranging offices and classrooms.

 

Performs other related duties as required.
