Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate in Applied Science degree in graphic arts/printing technology or related field from a regionally accredited institution
  • Experience in operating the following: Mutoh 1604 wide-format printer with Caldera RIP; Mutoh wide-format cutter; Esko Starter X flatbed cutter; Xerox Versant 180 digital press with Fiery RIP; linear measurement tools; and bindery equipment including an MBM Ideal 7228 28-inch paper cutter, an air-fed Morgana buckle folder, punch binding system, coil binder, creaser, perforator, and perfect binder
  • Experience in using Adobe Creative Cloud software applications including InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop and the ability to visually match ink color
  • Critical thinking skills and excellent communication skills, both oral and written, are required, as well as the ability to work well with others
  • Mechanical skills are required including the ability to troubleshoot technical issues and make minor repairs of equipment

Position Description

The Graphics Production Specialist designs, produces, and finishes documents and graphics for electronic display and/or printed output as requested by patrons of the Printing Department using a variety of software, printing, and finishing equipment. In addition, the position is responsible for clerical and physical tasks in connection with producing printed material to the specifications requested. This person may direct and coordinate the activities of other staff members engaged in the printing production process.

The duties of the Graphics Production Specialist include, but are not limited to:

  • Operate a black and white high-speed copier and a Xerox Versant 180 digital color press with Fiery RIP
  • Perform necessary document bindery and finishing operations
  • Graphic design and layout of various publications and wide-format graphics
  • Finish and install simple wide-format graphics and decals
  • Perform quality control checks throughout production to ensure accuracy and acceptable quality of printed images
  • Maintain and order paper and printing/imaging supplies
  • Provide on-campus delivery of orders as time permits
  • Assist customers in placing work orders
  • Prepare printing estimates, job tickets, and invoices
  • Perform routine maintenance on all prepress, printing, and bindery equipment

Working Conditions

  • The Graphics Production Specialist will work in a typical printing production facility environment
  • Must be able to lift 70 lbs.
  • May be exposed to chemical, mechanical, or electrical hazards
  • May be exposed to paper dust, fumes, or odoriferous working conditions
  • Must be able to stand for long periods to operate equipment
