Minimum Qualifications
MINIMUM EDUCATION QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or GED/HSE required.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum of one year of experience in grounds maintenance with related skills required.
- Knowledge of maintaining equipment and minor vehicle repairs required.
- Valid driver’s license required.
- Must possess a valid NC Department of Agriculture pesticide license, or be able and willing to obtain the license within six (6) months of hire date. Must maintain the validity of the license through annual renewal.
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule as necessary.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Must be able to perform grounds maintenance duties as described herein for at least 8 hours per day. Additional work hours per day may be required occasionally.
- Ability to walk continuously and at times on uneven surfaces is required.
- Must be able to tolerate weather conditions such as extreme heat and cold, work in tight or constricted spaces, and at heights.
- Must be able to repeatedly lift, carry, push and/or pull items weighing fifty (50) pounds.
- Ability to wear required safety toe shoes or boots.
- Stooping, kneeling, bending, and overhead reaching required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Career Readiness Certificate (CRC) preferred.
Position Description
SUMMARY
Open Until Filled-
Maintain the grounds at College campuses and satellite locations; perform all necessary tasks to maintain the grounds including, but not limited to, maintenance of lawns, plants, trees, parking lots, sidewalks, roadways, etc.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Ensure maintenance of equipment and perform repair services and overhauls when necessary.
- Cut and sow grass, plant flowers, and shrubs.
- Apply lime and fertilizer, and spray lawns as needed; aerate (plug) lawns.
- Plant, prune, and trim trees and shrubs when necessary; edge sidewalks, flower beds, etc.
- Operate backhoe and front-end loader.
- Blow and rake leaves.
- Operate string trimmers, edgers, and zero-turn mowers.
- Operate tillers, aerators, and pressure washers.
- Maintain and remove debris from parking areas.
- Perform snow removal with the aid of tractors; apply ice melt to sidewalks and roads.
- Respond professionally to customer needs and maintain friendly, efficient, positive customer service at all times. Interact effectively, build relationships, and demonstrate a high level of cooperation.
- Serve on departmental and/or College committees as requested and needed.
- Must be flexible with schedule and be on call as needed.
- Maintain technical skills and required certifications to perform job duties.
- Perform other related duties incidental to the work herein described.
