Position Description
The Grounds Technician is responsible for performing the duties necessary to maintain the appearance at Mitchell Community College conducive to expectations of the administration and our student body.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
maintain the College grounds (i.e. raking, cutting grass, trimming shrubbery, plant flowers, fertilize and mulch lawns in desired areas)
remove debris from campus after inclement weather, clear snow/ice from walkways, and leaf pickup/removal
maintain campus appearance at all times
Related Responsibilities:
move furniture between offices and buildings
assist with setups and teardowns for college events
perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor
Surroundings/Environment:
Attends to a number of different environments including indoor and outdoor spaces. Possible exposure to weather elements, including wet or humid conditions, possibly in high or precarious places, dealing with toxic or caustic chemicals, likely fumes and airborne particles, possible excessive vibration, including work near moving mechanical parts, potential for electric shock, loud noises and contact with wildlife.
Physical Effort:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to move for extended periods, ascend/descend as needed, and position self to maintain environments. Must be able to detect environmental abnormalities such as spills or odors. The employee frequently carries up to 50 pounds, and occasionally pushes up to 100 pounds.
Scheduling:
This is a full time position. Normal working hours are 7:00 am to 3:30 pm, Monday through Friday; however, must be available to work occasionally on weekends and evenings as needed for campus events or inclement weather.
Travel:
Local travel is required, including between campus locations.
