Work experience with selective admission programs in a community college setting; Experience with Ellucian Colleague or Banner (or similar student information system).
Position Description
This position provides academic counseling, advising, and educational program planning to prospective students and to students seeking admission to health science programs at the College. The employee uses discretion to guide student program selection and degree planning, and counsel students individually and in groups. The employee provides coordination and oversight to the College’s selective admission processes in Nursing, Dental Assisting, and Emergency Medical Sciences (EMS). This position reports to the Associate Vice President of Student Success.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:
- Conduct all aspects of the College’s annual selective admissions process for the Nursing, Dental Assisting, and EMS programs; Apply admission criteria to evaluate, rank, and select applicants each year; Ensure all available seats in the entering class are filled by maintaining a “wait list” of qualified students.
- Advise prospective and current students on the admissions process for pre-health sciences programs, testing requirements, course registration, and new student orientation; Guide and counsel students to create individual educational plans to meet program pre-requisite requirements.
- Develop and maintain on-going communication system with health science students, including Moodle web-based “selective program advising centers” tailored to their needs, e-mail communication, and regularly scheduled group information sessions.
- Monitor student academic progress for program admission and retention.
- Maintain student files and confidentiality as required by admission, program, accreditation, and college guidelines and in accordance with federal, state, institutional, and program regulations.
- Proctor TEAS testing on ACC’s campus for prospective students seeking admission into ACC’s Nursing program; Schedule TEAS testing dates with ATI Testing; Recommend and connect students with resources to aid their TEAS test preparation.
- Utilize the document imaging system for health science student records.
- Communicate and collaborate with department heads and health science faculty regarding admission into selective programs.
- Evaluate college academic credits earned elsewhere and assign transfer credit toward ACC health science degree completion.
- Participate in and support ongoing departmental assessment, planning, and evaluation to improve student learning and completion.
- Support ACC’s strategic initiatives by assisting with prospective student recruitment/outreach activities in order to increase enrollment.
- Supervise and evaluate part-time health admissions staff.
- Maintain collaborative, respectful working and consumer-centered relationships.
- Assist with the annual Commencement ceremony and other college related duties as assigned.
