Education           

Bachelor’s Degree Required  (Preferably in education, business, communications, social work or related field). Two years of experience in advising/counseling students.

 

Knowledge and Skills    

• Knowledge of college and community resources

• Knowledge in budget and payroll management

• Training in the techniques of Appreciative Advising and counseling

• Extensive knowledge of academic and college policies as well as curriculum offerings, course requirements

• Knowledge of the TRIO POPULATION

• Knowledge of the financial aid process, available funding and scholarship opportunities

• Knowledge of database tracking

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s Degree Preferred (Preferably in education, business, communications, social work or related field).

Position Description

Statement of Primary Purpose

Provide direct services in counseling and Appreciative Advising to SSS students in all Health Science programs. Discuss career choice, program requirements, and academic goals. Manage all reports for SSS students receiving tutorial services. Coordinate SSS service learning programming. Assist with maintaining and achieving objectives of SSS.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

• Perform intensive academic advising, which includes close collaboration with Health Science program and/or clinical coordinators.

• Develop Student Success Pathway Plan for each participant based on needed and requested services.

• Continually monitor students’ progress and evaluate students’ success.

• Maintain individualized student folders and reports.

• Re-evaluate student success through regular meetings and review.

• Connecting students to campus resources.

• Track all SSS activities through the Blumen database.

• Generate monthly, semester, and annual SSS tutorial reports and budget.

• Collaborate with the LAC Tutor Program Coordinator to ensure accuracy for reporting and student progress.

• Organize TEAS Prep Workshops for SSS students for each fall semester.

• Attend Health Science Division meetings.

• Work closely with other members of the SSS team to achieve the objectives of SSS.

• Coordinate SSS service learning activities and market opportunities to students.

 

Additional Duties and Responsibilities

• Attend Cultural Enrichment and service learning trips as planned by SSS office when appropriate.

• Attend workshops, conferences, and trainings as required.

• Attend Health Science program pinning ceremonies and graduation.

• Serve on appointed Southwestern Community College Committees.

Physical Demands          

Mostly indoor activities, some cultural enrichment trips may require various physical demands, to include hiking in mountainous terrain.

 

Licensing Requirement

NC driver’s license.

 

Working Conditions and Environment

Flexible work hours to accommodate some weekend and evening hours.

 

Equipment Operation

Standard office equipment – phone, computer and copier.
