Minimum Qualifications
- Registered nurse or Bachelor Degree from an accredited college or university with 3 years of experience working in the clinical or allied health field.
- Microsoft Office Suite skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential.
- Proficient at interpreting and analyzing diverse data.
- Ability to work collaboratively and independently to achieve stated goals.
- Excellent interpersonal skills

Position Description
This is a three year grant-funded position for a Health Sciences Success and Career Coach to work within the School of Health Sciences to promote a culture of continuous improvement by strategically supporting and connecting pre-nursing, nursing, and allied health students with academic, social and career supports through advising and referral to college and community resources. The Coach is will support program development that directly impacts student retention and success. Direct outcomes include successful completion and an improvement of VGCC students’ health licensure pass rates.
Work requires the analysis of complex student development problems, planning of various interrelated activities to support the comprehension of content, and frequently engaging in professional development to enhance the current skillsets. It requires the most current information and knowledge of procedures and regulations regarding recruitment, retention, and advising while serving as a resource for Vance Granville Community College. Essential Duties:
- During the first year of the grant the focus will be on the Nursing students. For years two and three, the focus will expand to include touchpoints with students across the College’s healthcare programs.
- Collaborates with faculty and students on course delivery and has a critical role in providing additional academic support to students.
- Performs data collection, data analysis, and reporting while assisting with department accountability of this Glaxo-Smith Kline Foundation grant.
- Provides holistic, personalized, and proactive support by serving as main point of contact for assigned students and connecting them to key supports and resources in and outside of the college.
- Works with program participants individually and in small groups to hone employability skills and increase student understanding of career opportunities.
- Guides and advises individual participants toward program completion and successful licensure examination, including licensure examination preparation.
- Coordinate, compile, input, categorize, calculate, tabulate, audit, and verify information or data for use in analyses or reports.
- Provide appropriate referrals to the correct resource to address an issue of concern beyond the scope the coach.
- Assist program instructors in monitoring successful attainment of board certifications/licensures.
- Participate in local or regional training events and conference calls as required.
- Assist in understanding educational, personal, and occupational strengths and limitations of students
- Counsel students regarding their adaptability to a college environment and work-life balance, especially as a Health Sciences student.
- Participate in program, departmental, grant and institutional meetings and other co-curricular activities of the College.
- Ensure the confidentiality of educational records in compliance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Physical Demands:
- Light work that includes moving objects up to 25 pounds.
- Sedentary work that primarily involves sitting/standing.
