Minimum Qualifications

 

• Bachelor’s degree
• Ability to work positively and cooperatively with students and co-workers
• Sensitive to students with diverse educational backgrounds
• Ability to perform multi-task assignments and create lesson plans
• Excellent attention to detail
• Ability to facilitate Math learning through Algebra and Geometry level

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in teaching adult students
• Experience in teaching Adult Basic Skills and/or public schools
• Experience working and or volunteering with individuals with diverse educational backgrounds

Position Description

Job Description

The High School Equivalency (HSE) Instructor is a part-time position and may be located on campus or off-campus in Anson County. Under the direction of the Program Coordinator for High School Equivalency Programs, the HSE Instructor will be responsible for providing reading, writing, and math instruction in order to assist adult learners in earning a high school equivalency diploma and transitioning to post-secondary training and careers.

Job Duties

• Plan and facilitate lessons for adults who either lack a high school credential, or have tested below a 12th grade level in reading, language arts, or math using the NC Adult Education Content Standards
• Focus on developing students’ critical thinking skills in addition to their reading, writing, math, science, and social studies knowledge
• Support students’ ability to succeed in a high school equivalency exam prep
• Teach on campus or at an off-campus location in Union County
• Plan lessons for each class meeting
• Communicate academic material in a positive and appropriate learning environment
• Provide direct instruction, small group and individualized educational activities for students
• Communicate with the Assistant Director for Adult Basic Skills Programs
• Maintain required paperwork for the class including an online attendance roster, registration forms, and student portfolios
