Minimum Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s degree in education, counseling, marketing, or a related field
  • Two years’ experience in academic advising
  • Two years’ years of experience working in a public secondary school system or at a postsecondary institution

Preferred Qualifications


  • Master’s degree in business, counseling, marketing, education or a related field
  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships within an education setting; plan, organize, and implement programs and services; and provide tracking and assessment to ensure quality
  • Experience in advising high school students for college courses and/or career opportunities

Position Description

The High School Outreach Specialist & Career Coach reports to the Director of Educational Partnerships and Initiatives   This position assists in the coordination of educational outreach in high schools within Randolph County.  The position will serve as an academic advisor and career coach to designated high school students.  This position will also work alongside the Director of Educational Partnerships and Initiatives to assist with high school outreach efforts and the enrollment transition plan.   

  • Collaborate with all areas of the college to coordinate outreach between the college and secondary, public and non-public schools in Asheboro City and Randolph County.
  • Manage college communication with high school students at two high schools, including Career & College Promise students and assists in partnerships/presentations between Randolph Community College and K-12 partners.
  • Engage students, counselors, faculty, parents, and all other stakeholders with information sessions related to college opportunities; participate in school-related activities in which RCC and articulated credit can be promoted (Parent Nights, grade-level meetings, etc.)
  • Provide exceptional student-centered customer service, ensuring quality support to students and parents throughout the enrollment process.
  • Provide career counseling services to high school students, exploring career and educational opportunities to support the students’ career goals
  • Maintain accurate and adequate student records to assist in academic/career advising and registration of high school learners
  • Conduct orientations for RCC high school students at the beginning of each semester
  • Provide supportive interventions to help students succeed in high school/college courses; providing academic success strategies to facilitate successful transition, foster progression, and promote completion of credentials
  • Monitor student progress in high school/college classes and work with students to develop plans for success, i.e., track attendance, academic progress, early academic alerts
  • Manage textbook information for dissemination to high schools for Career & College Promise students
  • Prepare reports upon request of the Director of Educational Partnerships and Initiatives to monitor CCP students’ academic progress
  • Maintain sensitivity, understanding and respect for a diverse academic environment, inclusive of students, faculty, and staff of varying social, economic, cultural, ideological, and ethnic backgrounds
  • Coordinate outreach efforts in area high schools to promote educational opportunities at RCC and monitor high school to RCC conversion rates and efforts
  • Support the Director of Educational Partnerships and Initiatives in developing and carrying out a seamless transition from secondary to post-secondary education for high school students
  • Participate in team meetings and professional development activities, as recommended by the Director of Educational Partnerships and Initiatives
  • Additional duties as required by the Director of Educational Partnerships and Initiatives
