Minimum Qualifications

Required Education:  SACS requirement for Arts and Science Faculty Instructor position must
                                       be met as follows:

Master's Degree in History or Master's Degree with 18 graduate hours in History from an accredited institution

  • Online course development experience
  • Effective working knowledge of personal computers, including Microsoft Office Suite, internet, and email services
  • Ability to deal tactfully and courteously with members of the Board of Trustees, college staff, students, and with the general public
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, written, and oral communication skills
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with other employees
  • Considerable discretion in the handling of confidential information and sensitive materials
  • Commitment to the mission, vision, and values of Mayland Community College

Preferred Qualifications

In addition to Minimum Qualifications:

  • Eighteen (18) graduate hours in a second social science, i.e.:
    • Psychology
    • Sociology
  • Post-secondary teaching experience
  • Training in education / classroom instruction

Position Description

Under general supervision of the Division Dean, the faculty member teaches assigned class loads and serves as faculty advisor for College Transfer students according to the rules and procedures of the College. The faculty member will work at least 40 hours per week. Position will be a nine and a half (9.5) month position.

Primary duties include, but are not limited, to the following:

  • Preparing for assigned courses (seated, hybrid, and/or online)
  • Effectively instructing courses (seated, hybrid, and/or online)
  • Engaging in effective seated and online classroom management
  • Evaluating student work in a timely manner
  • Maintaining posted office hours
  • Being knowledgeable of resources and services helpful to students
  • Maintaining currency in professional and technical knowledge
  • Completing required administrative records/documentation
  • Participating in college and community-wide initiatives
  • Mentoring adjunct faculty
  • Contributing to Arts & Sciences program review process, strategic planning, and budgeting 
  • Fulfilling other duties as needed
