Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Associate’s degree in Human Resources, or a related field is preferred
  • 3-5 years’ experience in Human Resources, Administration and/or benefits administration
  • professional certification credentials (SHRM-CP or HRCI) are preferred
  • experience with Datatel/Colleague software is highly preferred
  • experience in higher education / familiarity with NC community colleges highly preferred

  • excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • ability to work in a congenial and professional manner with students, faculty and staff
  • demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint)

 

Position Description

The Human Resources Coordinator is responsible for the recruitment and on/off-boarding of all full-time employees. The HR Coordinator also manages the benefits administration and collaborates within the office to provide administrative support as needed, including record keeping, file maintenance and HRIS entry.

 Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • coordinate the recruitment function of the College, including working with hiring managers to create/update Job Descriptions and Personnel Action Forms
  • initiate job postings and advertising for part- and full-time employees
  • meet and work with search committees/chairs to conduct applicant evaluations and interviews
  • work with committees/managers to facilitate documentation at the end of the recruiting cycle
  • perform employment verification and initiate background checks for full-time candidates
  • create salary calculations and offer letters for prospective full-time employees
  • coordinate the on/off-boarding function of the College
  • oversee and manage documentation processing for all staff, including;
    • processing federal and state tax forms
    • I-9 documentation and E-verify submission
    • employee benefits forms
    • policy and procedure acknowledgements
  • plan and oversee new employee orientation
  • facilitate exit meetings and documentation for full-time employees
  • maintains employee records by recording new hires, transfers, terminations, changes in job classifications
    • oversees the compilation and distribution of annual letters of intent (contract renewals) and employee policy acknowledgements
    • ensures that relevant employee information is up to date and accurate in the HR database (Datatel)
  • administer the health and benefits plans (enrollments, changes and terminations); including disability programs, COBRA, and Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA).    
    • process required documents through payroll and insurance providers to ensure accurate record-keeping and proper deductions
    • audit benefits or other programs and recommend corrective action
  • Completes annual reporting requirements for State and federal entities; including Affordable Care Act Report (ACA), Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS) Report, Staff Information Report (SIR), and Department of Labor (DOL) New Hire Report

Related Responsibilities:

  • manage department ordering through the State of North Carolina eProcurement program
  • administer the Worker’s Compensation Program for employees paid from state funds
  • facilitate documentation of College volunteers and interns
  • format job descriptions and create related position descriptions/IDs
  • update Human Resources webpage and SharePoint as needed
  • perform customer service functions by answering employee requests and questions
  • represent the Director of HR at meetings as appropriate
  • perform other related duties as directed
