Education and/or Experience 
 

Required:

  • Associate's degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school, and 5-7 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Two years of experience in HR and/or benefits administration.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources or related field of study.
  • SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) or SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) certification credential.

Position Description

Administers policies and procedures relating to specific phases of human resources. Responsible for assisting with the administration of all benefits, wellness and retirement programs, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short- and long-term disability, and 401(k) plan. Monitor government regulations and market trends to ensure that benefit programs are current, competitive, and legal.

 

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Serves as College's health benefits representative, plans and conducts employee benefits enrollment.  
  • Performs quality checks of benefits-related data.
  • Assists employees regarding benefits claim issues and plan changes.
  • Distributes all benefits enrollment materials and determines eligibility.
  • Enrolls employees with carriers and process life status changes.
  • Responds to benefits inquiries from managers and employees on plan provisions, benefits enrollments, status changes and other general inquiries.
  • Processes and administers all leave-of-absence requests and disability paperwork: medical, personal, disability and FMLA.
  • Effectively interprets FMLA and ADA implications as they relate to leaves of absences/disabilities.
  • Responds to 401(k) inquiries from managers and employees relating to enrollments, plan changes and contribution amounts. 
  • Assists with the open enrollment process.
  • Conduct new-hire orientations.
  • Administers the educational advancement program.
  • Submit and process benefits vendor invoices.
  • Manages employee data through appropriate systems.
  • Responds to inquiries regarding policies, procedures, and programs.
  • Assist in preparing and distributing employee contracts.
  • Maintains records of personnel transactions such as hires, promotions, transfers, and terminations, and employee statistics for College and other reporting.
  • Maintains knowledge of legal requirements and government reporting regulations affecting human resources functions and ensures policies, procedures, and reporting are in compliance.
  • Trains management in various human resources functions.

 

Language Skills 
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.   Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Mathematical Skills 
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.  Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Reasoning Ability 
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills 
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of  Database software;  Human Resource systems;  Internet software;  Spreadsheet software and  Word Processing software.
