Master’s Degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology or Human Services.  Minimum of 3 years of experience in counseling required. 

Preferred Qualifications

Additional experience in Instruction preferred.

Position Description

Statement of Primary Purpose

Provide instructional for the Human Services Technology program.

Adjunct, Curriculum faculty

 

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Prepare and teach assigned courses in accordance with course outlines and published course schedule.
  • Maintain accurate records for each course taught.
  • Prepare, review, and update course outlines on a regular basis.
  • Recommend and assist with curriculum revisions as necessary.
  • Assist in student recruitment, advising, and retention.
  • Participate in curriculum advisory committee meetings, if applicable.
  • Assist in selection and ordering of equipment, supplies, and textbooks.
  • Participate in college events and activities.
  • Attend college commencements.
  • Cooperate in scheduled student evaluations of instructor and course.
  • Keep regular posted office hours in accordance with college policy.
  • Submit all college reports in an accurate timely fashion.
  • Attend instructor and departmental meetings as scheduled.
  • Be responsible for professional development and maintaining professional competence.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and others.

 

Additional Duties and Responsibilities

Cooperative Education Instruction-- serve as liaison between the Southwestern Community College and the co-op education sites and be responsible for the establishment of sites and faculty standards under the direction of the program director. Plan, coordinate, facilitate, administer and monitor activities on behalf of the academic program and in coordination with academic and co-op facility.

 

Minimum Qualifications

Education           

Master’s Degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology or Human Services.  Minimum of 3 years of experience in counseling required.  Additional experience in Instruction preferred.

 

Knowledge and Skills    

Instructor will be able to demonstrate effective counseling skills, interviewing, assessment and treatment planning. Demonstration of these skills is vital to instruction throughout course work.

 

Physical Demands          

Ability to teach instructor-led class on campus and visit clinical sites.

 

Licensing Requirement

Licensure in social work, or Licensed Professional Counselor, North Carolina certified in Substance Abuse.  Certified Clinical Supervisor.

 

Working Conditions and Environment

Walking, typical campus environment.  Travel to clinical site visits as necessary throughout the semester.
