Minimum Qualifications
• High School Diploma or High School Equivalency Diploma and five (5) years of experience in industrial sewing machine operation and maintenance OR Associate’s Degree and three (3) years of experience in industrial sewing machine operation and maintenance
• Expertise in all manners of sewing techniques and operations
• Expertise in related safety procedures
• Effective written and oral communication skills
• Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office software applications, email, and internet research
Preferred Qualifications
• Minimum one (1) year teaching at a community college and/or experience working in a correctional setting
• Experience with multimedia instructional techniques
• Evidence of effective problem-solving, critical thinking, and decision-making skills
• Evidence of a career that includes a strong work ethic with a proven track record of project completion, multi-tasking, and the ability to manage high-pressure environments
• Proven ability to deal effectively, cooperatively and tactfully with students, correctional facility staff, college administrators, and faculty
• Personal and professional integrity which communicates a sense of mission, leadership, and an ability to be self-motivated

Position Description
Job Description
The Industrial Sewing Instructor is a full-time, 12-month position located at the Anson Correctional Institution (Close/Medium Women’s Correctional Facility) in Polkton, NC. Under the direction of the Director of Correctional Education programs, the Industrial Sewing Instructor will be responsible for developing and teaching Industrial Sewing coursework.
Job Duties
• Provide instruction and demonstration of basic stitching, use of basic patterns, means for mending damaged clothing and other alterations, basic machine use, and basic machine maintenance
• Communicate course content with enthusiasm, clarity, and patience
• Ensure safe and appropriate use of all equipment
• Maintain accurate and appropriate student, instructor, course, and program documentation
• Develop, update and implement curriculum and educational materials and methods used to advance learning in the classroom
• Participate in faculty/department meetings, college-wide professional development training, committees and campus activities
• Stay current with developments in the field of technology and learning theory
• Comply with college policies, internal audit procedures, rules and regulations
• Provide program participants and peers with a positive role model in terms of character and citizenship
• Adhere to correctional institution policies and procedures
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Correctional Education, Dean for the School of College and Career Readiness and the Vice President of Academic Affairs.
