Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate's degree from a regionally accredited institution in Information Systems, Computer Technology or related discipline
  • 1 to 2 years work related experience with computer, server and related appliance operating systems
  • 1 to 2 years of experience maintaining and troubleshooting computer and network services
  • Experience supporting audio visual technologies and interactive technology
  • Skill in the use of Microsoft Office, and commitment to using technology
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively and collegially with others
  • Ability to provide leadership in anticipating and responding to change
  • Familiarity with and appreciation for the mission of a comprehensive community college
  • Effectiveness in the following College organizational competencies:

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in computer related discipline
  • At least one industry-related certification
  • 2 to 3 years of experience with network switches and wireless devices
  • 2 to 3 years of experience implementing desktop and server operating system and applications
  • 2 to 3 years of experience with backup solutions, disaster recovery, and network and computer security policies and procedures
  • Experience in a higher education environment
  • IP Telephony experience

Position Description

SUMMARY:The Information Systems Specialist reports to the Coordinator, Information Technology Support and Services.  Working cooperatively with the Coordinator, IT Service and Support, other Information Technology personnel, faculty/staff, students and the community, the PC Technician performs or causes to be performed the following functions:

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Assists the Coordinator in developing and implementing the College strategic plan for technology. 
  2. Works collaboratively with College faculty, staff, students, and other resource people outside the College in identifying and responding to information system needs and priorities. 
  3. Assists in providing technical support for College network, hardware and software, and other information systems. 
  4. Works collaboratively with the Coordinator to develop and accomplish annual job accountabilities and professional development plan. 
  5. Works collaboratively with Information Technology staff members to develop team cross-training opportunities and knowledge-sharing. 
  6. Researches new and emerging technology in order to support planning and decision making. 
  7. Identifies and implements improvements to College information systems to maximize effective and efficient use of resources. 
  8. Coordinates technical support for the College instructional labs and faculty/staff  desktops, laptops, and audio visual equipment. 
  9. Coordinates lab imaging process for instructional needs.
  10. Trouble-shoot desktop, laptop, and audio-visual issues involving hardware, software, network, and responding to security alerts. 
  11. Supports IP telephony system adding and removing phones, troubleshooting connectivity issues, and maintaining integrated systems. 
  12. Research new hardware and software for compatibility with existing hardware and/or network.
  13. Assist faculty, staff and student users with questions, problems, etc. 
  14. Work with vendors to obtain quotes. 
  15. Maintain inventory records of location of equipment, status of repairs, etc. 
  16. Performs other duties as assigned to support the purpose and initiatives of the College.
