Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Educational Technology, Instructional Design, Assistive Technology, or related field. 
  • Demonstrates a strong understanding of universal design and ability to guide faculty and staff in meeting digital accessibility standards.  Demonstrates knowledge of best practices for accessible documents, media, and other digital tools.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of relevant legislation, regulations, and compliance requirements for higher education, including the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act, and Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.1 (WCAG).
  • Demonstrates knowledge of captioning and transcription production for video and audio files.
  • Experience with some assistive technology such as screen readers, magnifiers, or optical character recognition software.
  • Experience conducting and assessing training sessions and workshops and/or teaching experience. Must be able to communicate and build positive relationships with all stakeholders including faculty, staff, and students.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal and communication (verbal and written) skills. Able to work independently and attain project goals with minimal direct supervision. Self-motivated and able to organize and prioritize work. Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Familiarity with and appreciation for the mission of a comprehensive community college

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree from an accredited institution in Educational Technology, Instructional Design, Assistive Technology, or related field. 
  • Higher education experience. 
  • Previous work experience as an Accessibility Specialist or comparable position.
  • Learning management system, video platform, and web conferencing software experience.

Position Description

SUMMARY:

The Information Technology Accessibility Coordinator is a full time position responsible for leading school efforts toward more usable and accessible digital content.  The Coordinator will provide leadership, advocacy, training, and technical assistance so that DCCC's digital course content will meet college guidelines, principles of effective universal design, and web accessibility standards.  This position also researches, recommends and implements systems, procedures and policies that promote and support digital accessibility.  This position reports directly to the Director, Learning Design.  The Information Technology Accessibility Coordinator has the following responsibilities:

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Collaborate with appropriate areas to develop, implement and assess a procurement policy that supports digital accessibility and inclusion in the classroom.
  • Provides oversight for the collection, management, and evaluation of VPATs for instructional software and digital tools as well as the
  • Collaborates with campus stakeholders to develop and implement a plan to work with vendors that ensures an accessibility roadmap and student support for identified deficiencies.
  • Participates in professional networks in the area of digital accessibility and universal design.  Researches and remains current with accessibility laws including the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act, and Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.1 AA.
  • Designs relevant, research-based guides and training materials to support faculty and academic staff in the implementation of the universal design framework.  Develops and facilitates workshops and training sessions to support the creation of accessible documents, presentations, media, and other digital instructional materials.
  • Works collaboratively with instructional designers to evaluate the accessibility of online course materials and provide training, support, and resources to faculty and staff.
  • Researches, recommends, and implement systems and processes to facilitate the captioning and transcription of audio, video, and other multimedia instructional content.
  • Collaborates with IT and Disability Services to equip computer labs and other academic support spaces with appropriate assistive technology.
  • Attends and participates in required meetings, and serves on college committees as appropriate. 
  • Performs other tasks as assigned that support the mission and initiatives of the College.
