Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • experience teaching in an LMS online environment
  • subject matter education and/or training and experience that have both the breadth and depth needed to ensure effective teaching in the appropriate subject areas per the guidelines as adopted by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and any appropriate governing agency
  • experience with diverse populations strongly preferred
  • demonstrated experience in teaching in a community college setting is a plus

 

IT Certifications

 

Professional Certifications Preferred: A+, SEC+, NET+, CCNA, LPIC1 or Linux+ (maintaining one certification currently)

 

Cisco Certified Instructor certifications

Minimum Education Requirements:

 

Associate’s Degree in computer networking or related discipline requiring extensive focus on developing of skills & knowledge in computer networking

 

 

 

Demonstration of Teaching Ability:

Each candidate will lead a teaching session during the interview process. The concept(s) will be presented to the candidate in advance of the interview to allow for preparation. The candidate should be competent and able to present a concept in a defined period of time.

Position Description

Job Summary:

Full-time Curriculum Information Technology Faculty are responsible for the delivery of instruction to community college students pursuing associate degrees, diplomas, or certificates. Instructional activities require subject matter expertise and thorough preparation for every class meeting. Other responsibilities include the completion of necessary paperwork, responding to requests from your immediate supervisor, and attending required meetings and trainings.

 

We are searching for a faculty member to join our collaborative team and to teach the following courses:

 

CTI 120            Network and Security Foundation

CTI 140            Virtualization Concepts

NET 110           Networking Concepts

NET 125           Introduction to Networks

NET 126           Routing Basics

NET 225           Routing and Switching I

NET 289           Networking Project

NOS 110          Operating Systems Concepts

NOS 120          Linux/UNIX Single User

NOS 230          Windows Administration I

NOS 231          Windows Administration II

 

Other IT related courses as assigned.

 

 

 

 Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Instructional Activities:
    • follow appropriate course goals and objectives along with evaluation methods which accurately measure student learning
    • be thoroughly prepared for each instructional responsibility, regardless of setting
    • maintain an up-to-date syllabus for each course using the approved syllabus template
    • be present for the entire scheduled instructional times or provide appropriate class coverage plans to the Program Coordinator and Executive Director in the case of necessary absences
    • ensure instructional materials comply with Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) guidelines
    • apply varying teaching methods to ensure concepts are conveyed to students

 

Related Responsibilities:

  • complete and submit in a timely manner paperwork such as grade reports, financial forms, class coverage forms and others as necessary for the efficient and effective operation of the College
  • work with Program Chair or Executive Director to order needed equipment and supplies
  • comply with College policies and procedures
  • work cooperatively with faculty, staff and students in a congenial and professional manner
  • exhibit a commitment to community college education and the concept of a learning-centered, open admissions institution
  • demonstrated effective and professional written and oral communication skills and organizational skills
  • install software on lab computers as needed
  • work with other IT Faculty to maintain computer labs and networking environment in all IT designated classrooms
  • develop engaging video-based instructional content
  • commitment to the College’s diversity and inclusion initiatives

Surroundings/Environment:

Standard classroom environment (indoors with moderate noise).

 

 

Physical Effort:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to maintain a stationary position for an extended period; move about the classroom, operate and position computers, as needed; and frequently communicate with students. The employee may occasionally move up to 25 pounds.

 

Scheduling:

Availability for both day and evening coursework on either of Mitchell Community College’s Campuses (Mooresville and Statesville). Most work will be on the Mooresville Campus where our IT Programs of Study are housed. Instruction may be face-to-face, hybrid, or online.

 

Travel:

Local travel is required, including between campus locations. Out of state travel is limited, but may be required for special trainings/conferences.
