Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree and fluency in Spanish

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s Degree with teaching experience and fluency in Spanish. Two years of work experience in an educational setting.

Position Description

Provide College and Career Readiness (ELA/Family Literacy) instruction and assessment based on each student’s individual academic needs. Plan programs of study to meet individual needs. Maintain portfolios on each student, hold student conferences and accurately document student attendance and academic progress. Follow up on students within the program to retain them until their goals are achieved. Oversee and train new instructors (ELA/Family Literacy) in maintaining accurate records and procedures necessary for the program. Make regular visits to each location to assist instructors in maintaining accurate individual records of student growth and retention (setting and meeting individual goals and placement). Assist instructors with testing procedures and retention techniques. Assist the instructors in developing a plan of study that will meet the students’ needs. Provide support for instructors in assessing student’s strengths and weaknesses and documentation of student growth prior to student exiting the program. Monitor LEIS reports and documents for completeness and accuracy prior to submission to the College and Career Readiness Director and CCR Data Coordinator at the different class sites. Provide instructors the supplies/materials needed for their classes.

• Provide instruction for College and Career Readiness students in ELA/ Family
Literacy Programs
• Implement and monitor IET instructional program
• Oversee IET classes and training/monitoring of instructors to develop curriculum
that is contextualized in various work-based learning areas
• Develop lesson plans as a guide for instruction in order to meet individual needs
• Choose the appropriate educational resources to offer alternative instructional
approaches to the diverse learning styles of adult students
• Assess the student’s academic needs and plan their program of study
• Keep portfolio on students to document progress in their program of study
• Complete student data forms required by the state Literacy Education Information
System (LEIS) and submit them to the Director of College and Career Readiness
Programs and CCR Data Coordinator by due dates
• Monitor student hours in Web Attendance and daily sign-in sheets for each ELA
class
• Follow up on students who leave the program before completing their educational
goals to promote retention
• Provide classroom supplemental instruction as needed
• Prepare Enrollment Verification forms for students regarding immigration
• Must demonstrate a commitment and ability to serve a diverse community for adult
English language learners
• Develops and executes an outreach, recruitment, and intake plan for adult English
Language Learners
• Promote the ELA/ Family Literacy Program in the community
• Interview potential instructors that are interested in being part of the ELA/ Family
Literacy Program
• Organize workshops to train instructors on how to assess students with the CASAS
test to assess the student’s progress
• Assess the instructors in developing a lesson plan that correlate with the CASAS
guidelines
• Train instructors on how to complete the student data forms required by the state
Literacy Education Information System (LEIS)
• Inform the instructors of any important mandatory staff/faculty meeting that they are
requested to attend
• Assess the instructors on all the paperwork related to their job
• Provide substitute instructor when necessary for ELA/Family Literacy classes
• Meet with community leaders to schedule new classes as needed
• Meet with the College and Career Readiness Director to discuss strategies that are
best for the program
• Meet with the instructors to choose the appropriate textbooks that will meet the
student’s academic needs
• Supervise all the ELA/Family Literacy instructors for the College and Career
Readiness programs
• Recruit and assist in the employment of new ELA/Family Literacy instructors
• Secure the appropriate educational resources (textbooks, software, equipment,
etc.) to offer alternative instructional techniques to the diverse learning styles of adult
• Attend College and Career Readiness staff meeting, professional in-service
meetings, workshops, conferences and other staff development activities as
requested
• Serve on college committees as assigned
• Maintain a clean and safe work area.
